The DCCC has added John Hall's challenge to Sue Kelly in NY-19 to its list of "emerging races."
A number of people have been drawing attention here to this great campaign, and one of the things we've been asking people to do is contact the DCCC to urge attention to it, so this news reflects both the efforts of people here and the strength of the campaign.
In case you've missed previous diaries about this great campaign, this is a competitive district, about 1% more Republican than the average district. The weak incumbent, Sue Kelly, has been running ads claiming to be an environmentalist who voted against the Bush energy bill. But she doesn't mention that she voted for it before she voted against it, and that the League of Conservation Voters rated her 2005 voting record only 17% pro-environment. The challenger, John Hall, is a real environmentalist with a long record of environmental activism, who has won previous elections to the county legislature and to the school board, and won convincingly with 49% in a 4 person primary. He's the kind of candidate people here would love if they knew more about him - his direct mail piece asks "Had Enough?" and he argues for an end to the occupation, single payer universal national health care, and is very critical of the corruption of Republican one-party rule.
