Senator Salazar,
I was absolutely horrified and ashamed to learn that you voted today for Senate Bill 3930 which further shreds the United States Constitution and gives President Bush more power that he will no doubt abuse.
Our founding fathers and those who fought in our Revolutionary War were willing to sacrifice their safety, even their lives, to create a democracy that would value and protect civil liberties and moral treatment of even our most hated enemy prisoners. Now you and a majority of both senators and representatives are willing to sacrifice that democracy and those principles for safety. Have we Americans become such cowards that we are unwilling to take risks for the sake of our Constitution and our way of life? Apparently so.
(continued below)
With each additional sacrifice of freedom, with each additional unguarded power awarded to President Bush, with each prisoner tortured, Osama bin Laden and all other terrorists win. Bin Laden's chief objective was to destroy our way of life. He doesn't need to attack us again. In fear and misguided efforts at retribution, a majority of our elected representatives to Congress are continuing the work he started. President Bush is bankrupting our nation for an illegitimate war and amassing power known only to dictators while shredding our Constitution. For the last 5 years, he has played right into the trap that bin Laden set, and now so have you.
My estimation of you fell drastically today, Senator Salazar. I don't know that there is anything you can do in the future to undo that.
Sincerely,
Let's flood the transgressing senators and representatives with mail!
