What a horrific couple of days. I'm enraged, and wide awake with a stomachache and tears and a headache and won't be to bed anytime soon, if at all tonight. The last time I felt like this was election night 2004. The time before that? The first night of shock and awe. The time before that? The nights of September 11 and 12 and all succeeding nights for about a week. And I had a mild case of these symptoms election night 2000 - I had a bad feeling about W even then.

We need to protest.

We have the message.

We have the fury.

We need the language.

With this fucked-up facsimile of a knowledgeable electorate, we need to adopt a repulsive strategy from the Dark Side's playbook to get the public to realize what happened today.

Soundbites - make 'em raw, make 'em righteous, make 'em compelling.

-some half-assed suggestions, after the flip-

TORTURE IS NOT A CHRISTIAN VALUE.

INNOCENT? I DARE YOU TO PROVE IT.

WESTERN CIVILIZATION: not in America

WHAT WOULD JESUS DO? NOT TORTURE.

HOW LONG WILL IT BE BEFORE YOU ARE LABELED THE ENEMY?

WATERBOARDING IS NOT AN EXTREME SPORT.

ARE YOU OK WITH ABU GHRAIB? (with pic)

GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME LIFE IN PRISON WITHOUT CHARGES

WE HAD A DREAM.

"... mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security..."
(Thomas Jefferson)

Speak softly and carry a big stick did not refer to TORTURE!
(Theodore Roosevelt)

"We must indeed all hang together, or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately."
DON'T BE THE NEXT PERSON LABELED "ENEMY."
(Benjamin Franklin)

"In politics the middle way is none at all."
YOU CAN'T COMPROMISE ON TORTURE.
(john Adams)

"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."

(Eleanor Roosevelt)

"The Law: It has honored us, may we honor it."
PROTECT HABEAS CORPUS.
(Daniel Webster)

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
