There is a new group in the Senate. They are called "Democrats for Torture" and they do not believe in the Constitution or the Bill of Rights - in particular the right of "habeas corpus" which has prevented governments from holding secret prisoners since the time of the Magna Carta (1215).
The charter members of this group include the following "Democratic" Senators:
Pryor (D-AR)
Salazar ((D-CO)
Lieberman (D-CT)
Carper (D-DE)
Nelson (D-FL)
Landrieu (D-LA)
Stabenow (D-MI)
Nelson (D-NE)
Lautenberg (D-NJ)
Menendez (D-NJ)
Johnson (D-SD)
Rockefeller (D-WV)
These are the Democrats who voted for George Bush's right to torture and hold secret prisoners.
Basically, voting for or sending money to any of these individuals is the rough equivalent of supporting their Republican opponents.
I have a dilemma. I live in Florida, in Katherine Harris' backyard. I have been happy to see her self-destructive campaign. But Bill Nelson is double digits ahead of Harris in the polls. He had no reason to vote against the most basic of rights, unless he actually does think that doing away with civil rights is a good idea. On the subject of torture Bill Nelson seems to be the moral equivalent of Katherine Harris. So, do I reward this behavior? I certainly will not contribute to his campaign.
I would love to hear someone explain why any progressive voter shouild support any of these idiots.
