Let me just start by saying there are many Republicans out there who are kind, caring, wonderful people and who are unbiased and really are interested in the bettering of our great country. I certainly don't like the company they keep, but hey, that's their business and my business is to kick their butts in elections no matter what. But really, the latest post on RedState is the most OFFENSIVE I have ever seen.
You see, I read RedState from time to time to see what the Republicans are thinking. I like to see what their side on current issues and political news is, and most of the time I can stomach whatever bigotries I see in both the posts and, usually, the comments. What's pathetic, though, is that they have an identity crisis everytime a Republican official has a major scandal. In two recent cases (Reps. Bob Ney and Mark Foley) you can see their posts. The Ney post was entertaining because the poster proclaims he's glad to have him out of congress, yet here he was still aiding and abetting republicans everywhere. Whatever, I'm okay with that.
What I do take issue with is the recent post on Mark Foley. As I check the site right now it appears the post has been edited, but I will rewrite it and post it to the best of my ability. Here's what I saw:
"Congressman Mark Foley (R-FL) has resigned from the United States House of Representatives over allegations that he was sending sexually explicit emails and IMs to male congressional pages and others.
I will refrain from pointing out that Barney Frank is still in Congress and I will refrain from daring to suggest that this is just another example of why the policy against gay scoutmasters in the Boy Scouts is a good one."
I am going to ignore the baseless link to Boy Scouts policy, but really, to link Barney Frank to Mark Foley is absolutely OUTRAGEOUS. Barney Frank is a senior, well-respected, frickin' amazing congressman from Massachusetts. He's dealt with Homophobic comments from the right-wing all over the place (anyone remember Dick Armey's 'Barney Fag' comment?) and still he shines as a beacon of progressiveness. What a horribly low point RedState has sunk to to have to swing around stupid accusations when one of their members has virtually admitted to sexually preying on young boys and they have one of their crises. Really, list for me the Republican scandals that have happened within the last 6 months alone. When one of these scandals happens the proper and polite thing to do is to note the wrong when you see it and express your sorrow, NOT to attack when of your opposition's members JUST BECAUSE he's gay. Great job spreading tolerance everywhere Repubs, I totally trust the job you're doing educating those Iraqis.
Honestly, I'm just sick and tired of dealing with the blatant homophobia and rudeness of the GOP's base. As a homosexual American, this comment personally offends me. For Democrats everywhere, this is as bad as Mean Jean's comments regarding Murtha. The GOP needs to get its act together and stop being proud of being racist, sexist, and homophobic. We should all stand together now that we've gotten a criminal out of our congress.
