It looks like sex will sell in this election cycle afterall. I though that we were actually going to go without the kind of corruption story that the traditional media considerss juicy enough to cover (you know "dead girl or live boy" type of stories.)
Gangster Jack Abramoff with his forced abortions, child labor, and money laundering? Nope. MZM and the Duke Cunningham Scandal? Nope.
I guess sex does sells, rather than that dude in the fedora and trench coat.
We've since found out that the Mark Foley scandal goes
way beyond Mark Foley. I mean
WAAAAY beyond Mark Foley. Hastert & Co. could have avoided this by holding Foley accountable in the beginning, thereby diffusing it. But they handled this with about as much grace as Archdioses in this country did in handling the record of priest abuses in the years leading up to the 2002 scandal. They merely kept him on and didn't even inform the Democratic side of the aisle about this. They hid this incident for a whole bloody year! We should hang this around their necks for the next 39 days and beyond. And why should we do this? Because it shows the lack of accountability in the Republican Congress, and sadly, while this is the least of the litany of Republican corruption, this is something that will actually get the notice of the GOP-friendly traditional media. Abramoff and MZM had their moments in the sun, but we hardly hear about them on CNN, MSNBC, and especially Faux anymore. Nevermind the
news that is
still coming in. Fedora Jack just doesn't hold the same media pull as a Grand Old Pedophile.
