The yard signs for GOP candidates have once again sprung up in my middle-class neighborhood. In 2004 mine was the lone yard sporting a Kerry/Edwards sign. This year just putting up Democratic candidate signs in a tit-for-tat display of party loyalty doesn't seem quite enough.
Is putting up anything beyond candidate signs a good idea? I'm very disgusted by the GOP agenda of torture, totalitarianism, racism and now covering up pedophile predators. A number of my neighbors are rather religious, yet they are proudly displaying yard signs for candidates that have enabled everything that goes against their so-called Christianity.
I've thought of the iconic hooded torture victim or something along the lines of a count of wasted lives in the Iraq Occupation, but would that be counterproductive? It's one thing to make a statement, but electing Democrats to office is the best kind of statement I can imagine making.
I've already contributed time and money to my candidates, so I'm probably doing a lot more than most of my neighbors. Should I just stick to the candidate yard signs?
