This is my first diary. It is the start of a serious of entries on Space Development/Colonization, and why it should become a central part of Liberals and progressives Economic plans. This first one is rather tame.

On NPR's weekend edition today, they were talking with editors from 3 papers in the country (their short version of talking head roundtable), and they were discussing Bill Richardson's plan for building a SpacePort. Liane Hansen, NPR's host, was talking to Kate Nelson, of Albuquerque Tribune, and what I heard was a combination of the "we've got enough problems here on earth" and "what a stupid idea". Now, I acknowledge all the problems on Earth that we have - both in this country and on the planet. But, I want everyone to read the following articles
Why Democrats should support Space Exploration
The politics and ethics of spending money on space exploration
Then I pose the following questions - Could Space Development be a winning economic issue for the Democrats? Possible in 06, but more likely in 08. For anyone caring to comment, I would ask to know what specifics you know about the economics of SpaceFlight and Space Development.
The point is, couldn't we use space development as a way to address some of the major economic issues here on Earth?
