we owe the reporter at least this question

Wed Jan 11, 2006 at 09:31:00 PM PDT

There have been quite a few articles regarding the recent tragic death of reporter David Rosenbaum.  I spent some time this evening reading them all. or as many of them as I could get on the net.  they all pretty much say the same things.
Here are a few of them in case you are interested.
msnbc
washington post
another nbc local site
nytimes
there are a few interesting tidbits that have not been hashed over very well. as far as I know.
msnbc mentioned a dark colored vehicle w/2 men getting into it being seen by a witness.
it has also been reported that there was a portable radio lying nearby.
Most interesting was the fact that his Watch was not taken.

I can tell you that I find it very suspicious that he retained his watch after being robbed. I can see his wedding ring being left behind [depending on whether or not his ring had a diamond] but his Watch?

My question(s):
What type of watch did he wear? was it expensive?  Given his age position and current employment I would guess it was not a timex.

Also - is there something to the spotting of a "dark vehicle" [black suv?] being seen at the crime scene? & is this merely a possible witness/suspect or something more?

o.k. I'm going to take off the foil hat now. thanks for listening and please share your thoughts and opinions.
'specially any dkos members from the area that may have some further insight or who may have a way of finding anything out locally.

  •  Feeding the foil (4.00 / 2)

I know nothing about the case, but a quick scan, and  I can throw out a few tin foilish observations (for what it's worth):

    • Motive: From here "For years, he was the specialist [in the] hidden, confusing or hypocritical details of legislation that was pending or just passed". And so on. It sounds like he was the perfect guy to comprehend  GOP corruption.

    • Nixon redux: Remember G. Gordon Liddy offering Nixon his services to kill Reporter Jack Anderson?  (And remember the difference between Nixon and King Bush--Nixon was not a TOTAL sociopath.)

    • Means: The President can do anything he wants. So sayeth the President.

Again--I know nothing about this. But we have a President who tortures. What WON'T he do?

rolex  or  timex  ,  lets find out & take it from there  .  we owe it to him  .  all i want is the truth  ,  just give me some truth  .  peace  .

"He was a reporter with a deep understanding of policy, and of the interaction between policy and politics," said Robert D. Reischauer,...["]He was one who wanted to peel back the layers of the onion from the smooth and superficial that the spinmeisters would like us to think is the real world, to the core that makes your eyes start to cry."
          ...
Mr. Rosenbaum shared the George Polk Award for national reporting for his coverage of the 1990 budget deal in which the first President George Bush abandoned his pledge not to raise taxes.

There you have it: he crossed Bush's daddy. The article also tells us that he covered Watergate and Iran-Contra hearings. I think it was a political assassination to help remind the media to toe the line. As whistles are being blown in greater harmony, the PTB get more desperate, and their acts more extreme in their attempts to control the damage.

while I was reading all the info I could find.
I spend so much time thinking of the [evil] our government could and probably is doing that I like to try to prove myself around such things until it becomes unavoidable. if you know what I mean.
I clicked on the link you provided at the bottom of your post and did a little more digging.  the info present is very compelling.
it just seems unlikely that in such a safe neighborhood that such a crime would be comitted and that at such time the perpertrator would not take the time to remove a watch. you had time to beat the man but not to take his watch?  I'm sorry it just doesn't pass the smell test. Add to that the fact that in the police report they mention multiple times the watch was not stolen. if it had been some low end watch it would not have even garnered a mention.
  •  who has a portable radio anymore? (none / 1)

  •  The links you all have posted are amazing. (none / 0)

there is so much information here to read it will take a while. this information is important. the situations relating to this death need to be researched. obviously we can't rely on m$n to do the digging. if you think it worthy please recommend. I'd like dkos to see these links.
  •  It's Important to stay vigilant, I thought the (none / 0)

    same thing.

There are many encouraging and discouraging items in the article.

If Rosenbaum's credit cards are being used at multiple locations, then it is highly likely that those using them are on video camera and if so, there is a high probability that they will be identified and caught.  Assuming that these persons are the criminals who attacked him, then the full story will come out eventually.

The EMT's, police and other responders seem not to have done a very fine job.  I realize that it is easy to conclude that someone is drunk in these circumstances, but it shows how jaded they are that they concluded that first, rather than do a thorough examination of him physically first.  I'm actually quite disgusted by that part of the story.  I would guess that he could have been saved, had they treated him immediately.  It's such a waste.

Now it is possible that the attack has other implications, but so far, I'm not leaning that way from the accounts.  It seems like a story of rank incompetence on the city's part, and if the family has the stomach for it, they should bring suit.

It is strange that the thieves didn't take the watch and other items, but thieves can act upon strange impulses.  It seems likely they should be caught.  If they are not, or if there is a some additional layer between the perpetrators of the crime and those using the cards, then that raises other questions.

    •  1 of the emt's swears (none / 0)

they smelt booze , but that smell is very easy to plant . i hope cameras did get whoever was useing the cards , but those cards could have gone anywhere after being lifted . other threads on other sites are being trolled ( smoke ) a red flag for me on any subject . tin foil off & out . thx  .
      •  of booze and cards (none / 0)

I agree on the cards, I tried to imply this in my comment.  While booze could have been planted, an easier explanation is that he had a glass of wine or liquor, or even two at dinner and vomited when he was hit over the head.  One or two glasses won'e make you drunk.  They didn't say that he vomited on the scene, but it's very possible he did there or as he stumbled along and they did say that he vomited at the hospital.  That might be the simpler explanation.

Nonetheless, there is no excuse for not looking him over carefully before concluding he was just a drunk.  That was just wrong.  It may have been dark, and that is the only viable explanation, but that should have been remedied by looking him over in a better lit emergency vehicle.

Also, the hospital did a disservice by taking the EMT's evaluation as the gospel.  They too should have looked him over.  There is plenty of incompetence to go around.

I agree that the way that Republicans get out and start to spin news items like this is often shocking and disgusting and seems to hint of coordination.  I have no idea if this is just right-wing instinct or worse, but it's good to be aware of it.

  •  I would bet... (none / 0)

This diary sounds like you dont trust this govt...imagine that...Maybe the killing of many reporters in iraq was a clue..I would bet they are targets big time, because the wheels are coming off, and I bet its going to get worse before it gets better...
