I sincerely hope to see Al Gore out here as an advocate for our planet for many years to come. We couldn't ask for a better spokesperson for our planet. This new book along with the movie, An Inconvenient Truth being debuted at Sundance this week, couldn't come at a more crucial time in educating people about this most important of all issues.
More below.
YES! I wrote
this in my first few posts on my blog that Al Gore should write another book about this issue. I am SO pleased to see that this book is coming out in April. I can't wait to get it.
Now more than ever, we need his voice and so many others to speak out about climate change. I do believe Hurricane Katrina was in part brought upon us by man's own inability to deal with the reality we face today... our responsibility for the changes in climate that produce these stronger storms. I am then so gratified to see that Al Gore, RFK Jr., all those marching in the virtual global warming march, and others, are willing to step up to alert Americans and the world to what we face ahead. Now it is also up to us to do our part to not only make others aware of what we do by our own actions, but to now by our own actions repair what we have done to our planet.
Political Will Is A Renewable Resource
Al Gore deliverd this speech at the Sierra Summit this past September, once again reiterating the crux of this issue: Morality.
Doing what we must do as stewards of this planet to preserve our Earth is now a matter of national security as well as morality.
As we saw with the levee breaks in New Orleans caused by the immense fury of Hurricane Katrina and our government's neglect and retiscence to see the urgency of this issue over their own greed, and with other hurricanes coming which scientists predict may be just as strong, this has not been the upfront issue it should be.
The catastrophic effects of climate change are also being felt in Africa, South America, and other continents, including the Arctic. It is therefore a moral imperative for man to face the challenges ahead regarding what kind of world we are making and leaving for our children not only to preserve our planet, but to keep our people safer.
It is not moral for corporations to spew billions of pounds of toxic chemicals into our lungs making us sick without accountability to those people or to this planet.
It is not moral for corporations to allow oil spills daily that kill wildlife.
It is not moral for this administration and Congress to hoodwink the American people with backdoor maneuvers designed to take away the only pristine Wildlife Refuge sanctuary our children would have known, just to satisfy the insatiable greed of corporate America.
It is not moral for this administration to divert funds that should go to shoring up our own levees and other programs that sustain this planet, in order to fight an illegal war that is not doing anything but bringing about the very conditions we need to fight, including the pollution of the environments of those nations.
It is not moral for them to IGNORE THIS.
The environment is the lynchpin issue to so many other issues that sustain us. Climate change is happening, and I believe it will cost us more in dollars and human life than this so-called war on terror will. For those who still claim that climate change is a non-issue, ask those who have ever been the victims of a hurricane about that. I suspect you will get a far different answer.
I am also sure the debate over this issue will continue, and I say that those who continue to play skeptics from a partisan, greedy, amoral stance, will be accomplices to the deaths of many more at the hands of the very science they discount.
Our moral responsibility to this Earth, our only home, can no longer be denied. It is time to stand up for your planet.
I am so happy to see that Mr. Gore has not shied away from this debate. He is as vocal as ever on this issue, and he is an inspiration to those who do see the effects that are coming full circle, in spreading the word about what we now must do as a species to preserve out planet to as many people as we can reach.
I made a point for this year as one of my resolutions for the Earth to tell at least five people a day in my conversations about this issue. So far I'm doing pretty good, and the consensus has been that climate change is indeed effecting our planet in a much bigger way. We must keep spreading the word, educating, and empowering people to take the steps necessary in their own personal lives as well as continuing to hold elected officials responsible for protecting this as planet.

April 2006 Book Release by Former U.S. Vice President Announced at Screening of Documentary Film About Climate Change at Sundance Festival
Rodale Books today announced its agreement with former U.S. Vice President Al Gore to publish a book about global warming entitled An Inconvenient Truth to be released in April 2006. Rodale Books President Tami Booth and Vice President and Executive Editor Leigh Haber acquired the book and audio rights in an agreement with Andrew Wylie of the Wylie Agency. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
The book, to be edited by Leigh Haber, will be released in April and was announced at the screening of the documentary film An Inconvenient Truth at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah on January 24. In the book, the former U.S. Vice President writes about global warming and shares his personal story about how the issue became of urgent importance to him. His 1992 book, entitled Earth In The Balance, was critically praised and became a national bestseller, establishing him as an expert and leading spokesperson on the issue. The subject has become increasingly vital to him in the intervening years.
The film was directed by Davis Guggenheim and produced by Laurie David, Lawrence Bender and Scott Z. Burns, and was executive produced by Jeff Skoll and Davis Guggenheim for Participant Productions, producers of Good Night and Good Luck and Syriana.
"Former Vice President Gore has presented his views in speeches around the world to tens of thousands of people, and we expect tremendous interest in the book," said Tami Booth Corwin, president of Rodale Books.
