Q: what can be done about the spying program

Feingold: Credit to Specter for the hearings.  Hopefully more than one hearing on this issue.  How big was program?  Who was wiretapped?  Skeptical of legal authority.  Look into the appointment of a special prosecutor.  It may be at some point it might come before the courts--and Justice Alito is a concern.

Q: Isn't it about time somebody introduced Articles of Impeachment?  Concerned about Alito...

Feingold: Explains it would be introduced in the House first, but not to put the cart before the horse.  Feingold worried about Alito's ideological agenda.

Feingold: I'd like to see every American assisted in trying to reach out to other people out in the world.  Show a different face of America.  Reach out in a positive way.  Been trying to promote that.

Q: What do you think states passing to get large corporations to pay for heathcare like Wal-mart?

Feingold: Won't endorse specific legislation; is for more universal health coverage in general.  Legislation can be a pressure point such as that recently passed.

    •  this question ... (none / 1)

... is specifically a reference to Governor Doyle's State of the State address on Tuesday. Wisconsin has a state-government system called BadgerCare that allows low-wage working families to buy into an affordable (?) health plan. In Doyle's State of the State speech, he pointed out that some improbable number (seems to me it was around 1800) of BadgerCare families were WalMart employees. As Doyle put it, "I want to make this very clear to Wal-Mart and any other company that might be thinking of shifting its health care responsibility to taxpayers: BadgerCare is intended to help working families, not multi-billion dollar corporations."

Actually, reviewing the speech online, I think it would be a good thing to diary (http://www.wisgov.state.wi.us/...). Doyle laid out a plan, dubbed the "Affordability Agenda", to address rising education, healthcare and housing costs. Might be a good reference point for Dems in other states.

NOW is when I really wish I could EDIT a post to correct factual errors. I originally guessed 1800, then decided I should find the real number, googled for the speech, got all interested in it, and forgot all about changing the number. ARGGHH

Q: What about single-issue legislation (criticizes the Alaskan bridge pork)

Feingold: Voted for the line-item veto as did John McCain.  Working with McCain on something new (that I don't quite understand from his description)

I also have Slaughter on a television nearby.

One of the last things he spoke about was campaign finance reform.

I was on the line, waiting to ask him about his philosophy on the Senate's role in judicial appointments (versus his philosophy re executive appointments), but he ran out of time -- usually their guests are on for the whole hour, not just a half-hour.

    RATS!
