•  a couple of things they overlook

  One is that Kos never stops trying to improve the site technically, to get it to work better, faster, smoother, etc.  It's one thing to elicit traffic.  It's a whole other thing to handle it.

  Ease of use is a big deal.

  Another is the fact that Kos takes a tremendous amount of shit from us constant readers.  Thick skin, sense of humor, and the savvy to step back, make room for other people and let it rip.  Very smart.

  Another is the development of new writers, the creation of the FP slots-- on a time limit-- and on and on.

  All these things, and more, are what attracts, contains, and develops the community that Glenn Reynolds (the jerk) so rightly envies.
