Netroots Militia: Let's insure we have the Senators' backs

Sun Jan 29, 2006 at 11:13:55 AM PDT

Okay, so a primary concern of many senators is the media noise machine.

Senator Kennedy talked in particular about one thing that I think is critical to keep in mind as we approach our Senators, and for them to keep in mind as they are considering this vote. We need to overcome the media noise machine by letting our Senators know that in voting their conscience, and making it clear that they are voting on principle, on conscience, they will overcome the media noise machine calling them obstructionists. We can help them realize this by letting them know that we've got their backs. That they are voting our conscience as well, and that we will not forget their courage.

From McJoan's Saturday diary on the conference call with Kennedy. http://www.dailykos.com/...

That's their big concern?  It's valid to some degree.  So, in this fight for a filibuster, we would be wise to set up a way to really `get their backs' in this regard with more than a promise to do so.  Here's a' idea:

More after the flip

WHY NOT SET UP AN ACTION NETWORK TO `GET THEIR BACKS' NOW SO THAT THESE SENATORS CAN SEE THAT WE MEAN BUSINESS WHEN WE SAY `WE'VE GOT THEIR BACKS.

Look at how we have been on the ground running to thwart the corporate media's lie that "Abramof gave to democrats too.'

Look at how we have been on the ground running to thwart Chris Matthews and other pundits'  insane drive to equate Osama bin Laden and Al Queda with the liberal left generally and specific national anti-war figures specifically (ie, Michael Moore).

What have we done?  Well, we send out a call to the netroots to respond critically to these lies and distortions.  We haven't completely silenced the ne'er do wells in the media noise machine, but we have had a substantial impact on their ability to run roughshod over truth and decency.  WaPo will think very carefully on their next Abramof article. WaPo knows that it has greatly discredited itself.

So, how can we CONVINCE our senators that we have their backs?

  1. We set up a website TODAY.

  2. We arrange to have a netroots militia ready at the push of a button (mass email to those in the netroots militia) to RESPOND and DENOUNCE the media noise machine who make trouble for Senators voting no on cloture.

  3. We create a well organized machine to sound back to the media noise machine.

  4. We let those key Senators know that the netroots militia is in place.

And we would have to do this very quickly.  Today.

I am simply suggesting that if the Senators' biggest worry is how a conglomerate of special interests who own the loud speakers to our citzenry, then we need to provide REAL INSURANCE to those Senators that we literally have their backs.

Our effectiveness on two current media noise machine issues is PROVEN.  Why not raise the bar some on our organizational apparatus?

Lord, if I were a true technical geek, I would just set this up myself.  Unfortunately, I am not. So, anyone want to help with this?

  •  Tip Jar... (4.00 / 4)

    No pennies, please....

We have to insure these Senators that we have their backs. WE know we have their backs.  I guess it is reasonable for them to worry that we might drop the ball on countering the media noise machine....

I say, let these senators know we are ready to go!

  •  it all happens tomorrow morning (none / 0)

eight solid hours of switchboard-jamming phone calls and faxes. Communications meltdown. We want the Senators aware of this as they file into the Senate Chamber to cast (or not) their vot.

Remember, a no-show or a "present" vote is equal to a no, because the thugs have to come up with 60 actual votes.

I'm betting Frist gets scared about noon, hearing about the phone jam, and tries to postpone the cloture vote, out of fear that he can't count on the votes. That "present" vote is a powerful way out for Senators who don't want their record to show a vote to shut off Democratic debate, or who don't want their vote FOR Alito on their record, either.

don't always believe what you think...

    •  But will our senators bite?? (none / 0)

The media noise machine won't distinguish between a no and a present or an absent.

I am on pins and needles.  I have a great deal of hope that we might see justice served. Odds are against it... but never have the odds been quite this good.

      Keep up the good fight!!
