The Book of Daniel...Bad News

Fri Jan 06, 2006 at 07:16:34 PM PDT

Umm...if you are reading this post, you have missed the first hour at least...

AND IT'S GOOD!!

Really, that's the only necessary reason for watching it.

I'm falling in love with Aidan Quinn...
and that cute, wise, bearded Jesus fella!

You better get on the phone to NBC and see if you can make them re-run it on Bravo or something.

...however, I had to stick with In Justice.  Very, very good!  These need to be at different times...

I fell for Aidan back during the Michael Collins movie.

This has been the strangest, oddest, wackiest show to watch. So many subplots...my head's spinning.

the show, until I heard why Dobson objected.  LOL.   Doesn't it always happen that way?  The more they protest, the more the pique the interest of people like me, which does nothing but up the ratings.

I figured it was going to be another syrupy attempt to cater to "family" viewers. Boy, was I wrong!  That's what I get for making snap judgements.  See, there, "judge not lest ye be judged."  I actually learned a lesson.

Now, I've got to go catch up on the second showing of Stargate Atlantis and Battle Star Galactica.  How grateful am I that the SciFi channel reruns their primetime line up?  Ever so.

    and enjoyed it!

the feel of an HBO series, as opposed to a network show. I'm amazed NBC took the chance, but I'm glad they did.

The two hour premiere was very good. The writing is quick and witty.  The characters are well defined. The cast has really good ensemble chemistry.  It's not as cloying as Touched by an Angel and it's much more grown up and smarter than Joan of Arcadia. Oh, and Jesus is not what you'd expect...or maybe he is what you'd expect, just not on a tv show.  lol.

I came away remembering what a friend said to me, at a point when my whole life was just pure chaos, "God has a sense of humor.  You've just gotta go with it."

    DAILYKOS DIARY GUIDELINES

       4. Diaries should be substantive. A good guideline is that if you don't have at least three solid paragraphs to write about your subject, you should probably post a comment in an open thread, or in a recent diary or front-page post that covers a topic relevant to what you wish to write about.

      10. If you receive a reasonable request from a fellow Kossack to delete your diary (i.e., your diary is duplicative as per above), please do so.

  •  good show (none / 0)

i watched it because of all the outrage, thought it was really good and the scenes with jesus seem to humanize him . the  fundies will flip because he wasn`t wrathful.i predict this show will be a runaway  hit, it has everything you could want in
a soap opera.thanks to the censoeship the ratings will be through the roof and it has a pretty easy time slot(20/20 as competition)watch the fireworks begin.
  •  underwhelmed (none / 0)

maybe i was just tired. premise is ok, but watching the travails of an episcopal minister in a neighborhood of millionaires didn't set off fireworks for me.

    •  I'm With You (none / 0)

I've always liked that Aidan Quinn and gotta admit he looked kinda sexy all dressed in black but I'm not sure what NBC is thinking with this show other than controversy for controversy's sake. There was not a single national sponsor that I recall other than a nanosecond long advert for H&R Block. There was not a single local sponsor other than ads for the local news show. The point is NBC isn't making money from this show. It makes no sense from a business perspective because NBC has no big hits and Universal/Sony is in trouble moneywise (that's why we were getting multiple repeats of My Name is Earl and The Office these past months---they got no "content.")

Quinn wasn't too bad as Daniel and I love the laid-back Jesus he talks to and I like the humor of it but there's really no imagination or subtlety in the concept of this show.  It's simply a catalogue of every liberal stereotype out there----pot selling daughter, gay son, adopted Asian son, interracial romance, drug addiction, alcoholic wife, embezzlement, on and on and on. Mix it all up with the Church, show a man of the cloth as only human (imagine that---he likes having sex with his wife every Friday!) and this is what you get. Book Of Daniel is alright but I don't see how it's going to last if no one wants to sponsor it.

  •  great show, lousy commercial interruptions (none / 0)

I'll get my Jesus commercial-free.  Too much emotional shock.  Record it for later time or something.
