I have been thinking about the Foley scandal and what could be a narrative which might resonate with the voters. I cannot remember my first thought, but it was not that good - it was something about danger and was disconnected from a larger narrative. What we need to do is create a story which will resonate with the value voters, but also tie in with the other themes the Democrats have been trying to discuss - the war in Iraq, corruption, incompetence, dishonesty, trust and deception.
Here is my try at that narative.
What we need to show is this Foley scandal is just more of the same behavior by this Congress - actions made secretly be men (and we are talking about men here) in power with the only goal of preserving their own power and no concern for our welfare and safety.
What sort of values do these people have where they think it is OK to endanger children who we entrust to their care? What sort of values do these people have where the Republican leadership thinks the best solution is to cover up the allegations and protect a pedophile? Why should we trust these people with the lives of our young men and women in Iraq when they cannot protect children from pedophiles? Why should we trust these people with running our country when we know they hide things from us? What values do these people have and are they the same values we have?
