I know I know. An unpopular war premised on deception worsens, the Constitution's in tatters, institutionalized Republican corruption and cover-up own Washington, and I'm wasting my time on a baseball diary? And on this last weekend of the regular season, with questions surrounding Detroit, Minnesota, LA, San Diego, Houston, why dedicate a baseball diary to the A's/Mets scenario? Because it is imperative that this year's World Series replicate the World Series of 1973, the year preceding the resignation of a Republican President in his second term. Clearly it is the duty of all progressives to root for an A's/Mets World Series, with the A's taking it all. This will, if history is any indication, force Bush to resign in 2007.
The A's/Mets World Series of 1973, it was a seven game nail biter classic. The progressive epicenters of both coasts met in a year that also saw
The Washington Post's Woodward (yes "State of Denial" Woodward) and Bernstein win the Pulitzer Prize for covering a little break-in at the Watergate.

Yes, Thats joltin Joe Dimaggio, Mr. Yankee, sporting the Green and Gold, flashing his Bay Area roots. With him of course is Reggie Jackson, World Series MVP, who would be in pinstripes by decade's end. The 1973 Series also featured Willie Mays' last hit of his professional career, as well as a Mets manager by the name of Yogi Berra.
1973-- The year when the mainstream media could no longer ignore a Republican President's deceit.
A Republican President's deceit
1973-- A year when the American people just wanted a senseless war to end.
A senseless war to end
A senseless war to end
SO PLEASE KOSSACKS, for the sake of the republic, please please please root for the A's to beat the Mets in the 2006 World Series. There is too much at stake. Yes by all means continue to volunteer for and contribute to Democratic candidates. Continue to write letters to the editor and monitor the corporate media. Do what you can to inform friends family neighbors and colleagues about the sorry state of our nation. We all know the stakes-- we must stop this President and stop this war.
And if you believe like I do that baseball holds the key to America's soul, then we must call on the forces of good to replicate that pivotal year of 1973. A's in 7 over the Mets. A's victory in October brings Presidential resignation the following August. Who's with me?
