I wish I was more familiar with these races before the scandal, but I imagine two more seats just got more competitive. Therefore we should maybe take a look at the two alternatives to Dennis Hastert and John Shimkus here in Illinois and if we can donate time or money.
IL-19 is a large area mainly south of Springfield all the way to Metropolis (like in Superman) on the way to Kentucky. In IL-19 Shimkus' opponent is
Danny Stover.
IL-14 stretches west of Chicago's suburbs and almost to the state line including DeKalb and Batavia. In IL-14 Hastert's opponent is John Laesch who already has a statement up on his site about the scandal:
Our campaign office reports that the phone has not stopped ringing all day and the Inbox on our e-mail account is exploding.
We know that Dennis Hastert has been the "cover-up" guy for everything that is wrong in Washington. Hastert has been cleaning up messes all the way from this Wednesday's "get out of jail free" detainee bill that he gave to George Bush to gutting house ethics rules after Tom DeLay was indicted.
I am currently working with Danny Stover who is running against Shimkus in Illinois' 19th District to hold a near-term press conference. If you want to help Danny Stover get a $400 plane ticket to Chicago, you can donate here
It is time for both of these gentlemen to do the right thing for America and resign.
Seeing my proximity to both campaigns and my repulsion at what appears to be a cover up and distortion of information I will definitely be dveoting my time to at least Laesch's campaign given its proximity to Chicago and maybe help out Stover too. An online poll (DeKalb County Online) had Hastert and Laesch tied in mid-August so this could be the tie breaker. I can't find out when or who did this poll but over at WeDemocrats.com for Southern Illinois I find on a Google search a poll with Stover at 41.2% and Shimkus at 46.6%. I imagine these will start working in our favor and we can help. Maybe someone has some more solid information.
