The continuing corruption and incompetence of this administration hit a new low on Friday when Congressman Mark Foley resigned in disgrace after admitting to sending sexually explicit messages to underage staffers.  John Boehner, Dennis Hastert and others knew about this aberrant and dangerous behavior for months, and possibly years, and did nothing.  John Boehner should step down immediately from his position as Majority Leader, and should be voted out of office on November 7th.

John Boehner and other GOP excuse-makers will offer carefully parsed statements that say nothing, while blustering loudly but dragging their feet until after the election.  They will call for an investigation of Foley, but not of themselves.   The American people will not tolerate sexual predators, nor will they tolerate those who protect sexual predators.

This is my first Daily Kos Diary. Pleasw join me after the fold.

Preying upon innocent children is not a partisan issue - it is an intensely deeply-felt parental fear that can mobilize millions overnight.  The American public has a right to know--immediately and completely, what John Boehner knew of Congressman's Foley's actions, when he knew it, and exactly what he did about it.

We need to enforce high standards for our elected officials, and even higher standards still for those in leadership positions.  John Boehner has failed terribly in his capacity as House Majority Leader to uphold the high standards of this public office.  He promised to introduce lobbyist reform, but has instead strengthened his ties to lobbyists and special interests.

He has repeatedly failed in his capacity as a Congressman to serve the public interest and not the special interest.  And he has now failed as a human being for not immediately showing the type of strong leadership demanded of the situation.  John Boehner is not fit to serve as House Majority Leader, and he is not fit to serve the fine people of Ohio's 8th Congressional District.

I will help bring change, honesty, accountability and transparency to government.  I will work hard for the people of Ohio's 8th Congressional District, and I will always put the general interest ahead of the special interest.  I will insist that America launch a strategic energy independence program in line with the citizen-powered `Energize America' program (www.ea2020.org) to wean us from our dangerous dependence on fossil fuels and to create new, high-paying jobs in renewable industries such as wind, solar and biomass.

I will insist that meaningful election reform is enacted to ensure fair elections with verifiable results, and to severely restrict special interest contributions.  I will work with the Democratic leadership to repeal the tax cuts on those making over $250,000, and to increase the minimum wage to ensure that America maintains a healthy and growing middle class.

Let's return America to its position of greatness in the world, respected because of our ideals, productivity and freedoms - and not despised because of our torture, incompetence and arrogance.  America can win the so-called "war on terror" as soon as we stop letting this administration sow fear to divide the nation and distract the media.  We can be tough militarily but not stupid in our strategy.  We can protect Americans best by protecting the freedoms for which our forefathers fought so hard to ensure.

Let's put an end to the constant fear, to the endless corruption, and to the eternal incompetence of this failed administration and Congressional leadership.  Vote for Mort Meier (www.mortmeierforcongress.com) on November 7th.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
