Michigan Liberal had the scoop on the abusive nursing home that MI Gov. candidate Dick DeVos (R-Amway) owned a couple weeks ago, and now the Detroit media is starting to pick up on it...
From the
Detroit Free Press:
In Monday night's debate, Granholm, a Democrat, said DeVos had failed to disclose his investment in Alterra Health Care, a Milwaukee-based firm that went bankrupt in 2003 amid charges of patient neglect and abuse. She said DeVos had owned 12 million share of Alterra's stock.
DeVos responded that he had owned less than 1% of Alterra's shares and that he didn't disclose it because his disclosure statement dealt with investments he currently holds. He also said he became aware of Alterra's problems with patient care "just recently."
Which I think underscores the fact that Dick DeVos wasn't even a very good businessman in the first place, and yet that's what he's trying to run on. And also at ML, Matt zeroes in on the crucial aspect of DeVos's deceptions:
Dick DeVos... tried to cover up his deep involvment with Alterra by conveniently not mentioning the company on his asset disclosure report. Last night, when called on it by the Governor, DeVos AGAIN tried to evade responsibility - saying that he had only a 1-percent stake in Alterra, when in fact his group of investors controlled the company.
Makes you wonder what other business secrets DeVos hasn't told us about. I mean, besides the mercenaries at Blackwater.
