During the Monica Lewinski Scandal, no one used to irk me as much as Jonathan Turley -- always rantin' and ravin' about the Constitution and uttering the always entertaining, "The Rule of Law!" Unless perhaps, it was listening to Bruce Fein and his incessant plaintiff wail, "Impeach! Impeach!"
Well, as it turns out, I guess I kinda owe each of them a sincere apology for all the times I called 'em every single expletive in my rather extensive vocabulary of curse words, every time they spoke out against "Da Big Dog."
Times have changed.
Now, as it turns out, whenever I see either of them on television I stop what I'm doing and pay close attention to what they're saying. Whether Turley's busy takin' on the Pentagon, advocating for rectroactive employee healthcare rights at Area 51, joining with Fein, testifying at the Senate Policy Committee Hearings on Capitol Hill about the unconstitutionality of torture, wiretapping or "the unitary executive," or, as in the case of Turley, talking nuts & bolts constitutional law with KO on Countdown -- they are both what I'd consider without qualm -- true blue defenders of the U.S Constitution.
Jonathan Turley was a House page back in '78-'79. He is angry about the utter failure of the program's leadership to protect our kids from would-be deviants. His op-ed piece in the Times today is every bit as thoughtful as it is heartfelt. He says the life of a House page, especially if you're a male, isn't always an easy one, and at times can even be insidious or injurious. Let's just say many congress members are less than auspicious in the treatment of pages. And, for every unwitting page working on the Hill, there's a pair of dark, esurient eyes in the shadows, following their every move.
