Just got this "cute" message in my answering machine. A Republican putz telling me that Melisa Bean will give immigrants names to the FBI for deportation - if they committed certain crimes - added the voice very lowly, almost in a whisper. But they did shout the FBI bit and the "Melissa Bean is wrong about Immigration!". As if I would believe a single word from a GOP shill.

But this might take votes away from Melissa. Chicago has a large numbers of immigrants, mostly from Poland and the Middle East, but many Hispanics too. And some of them, actually most of them, are too busy trying to earn their keep in Bush's economy to pay attention to the news. So they may fall for it.

Also Henry Hyde, one of my Illinois Congressman (to my disgusted shame), just mailed me to tell me he won't support the Voting Reform because it intrudes on States Rights.

They are afraid... Very Afraid.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Hopefully this November election won't be even close, so their cheats won't matter!

  •  Bean has a huge cash advantage (0+ / 0-)

over McSweeney, something like 450 percent.

Also recent polls have favored Bean, including an internal (D) poll which had her up 48-27.

I'm not too worried about keeping that seat.

A foolish consistency (staying the course in Iraq) is the hobgoblin of George W. Bush.

  •  How does this jive... (0+ / 0-)

... with the Republicans recent attempts to paint Bean as soft on immigration? (Reports of which were just plain wrong.) Unless they have their mailing lists and phone lists very well identified this is just going to end up as a typical Illinois Republican mess.

    •  I'm probably listed as Hispanic (0+ / 0-)

So it does seem they are going for the immigrants saying she will put them in jail, and to the "locals" saying she is too soft.

      GOP, always want both ways...
