I have to admit, there are times when I have a hard time justifying contributing to candidates. Every one I've contributed to from 2000 on has lost, from the Presidential to the Congressional level. Sometimes I feel that I'm throwing my money down a rathole. It's been a rough six years, people.
So receiving a signed note from Jerry McNerney for a silly little $25 contribution was really a surprise. Here is the text:
Dear Richard:
Thank you for your $25 contribution to my campaign for United States Congress in Caqlifornia's 11th District. It is because of your support, the support of the people, that together we can bring a balance of power and accountability back to Washington.
Your patronage helps me send the message that we will not back down on matters that are important and necessary. Please visit my website at www.jerrymcnerney.org for campaign news, upcoming events and other opportunities to help our campaign.
Sincerely,
Jerry
He hand-signed it.
I've contributed twice to Jerry and twice to James Webb, and once to several other candidates. But this is the first time I've received a signed note back. Assuming it wasn't an aide's signature (a conjecture that I personally reject), I have to say that this is enough to get me to dig deeper again on my next pay cycle.
I urge everyone reading this to help.
We all need to find a way to dig deeper this time. Bush visited Pombo's district on Tuesday and delivered himself of a rank, demogogic, hamhanded smear speech that resounded of nothing so much as a dictator who bitterly resents a single vote dissenting against him.
Pombo is his man. Pombo must go.
Please contribute, if you can, to McNerney's campaign.
Bush raised $400,000 for the already heavily-funded Pombo. McNerney cannot match this kind of juggernaut without our help.
It's going to be a long four weeks, with the NRCC deploying their vast quantities of cash to attempt to turn races back to their side. If we can't step up this time I fear we may eventually lose any chance to do so again.
We must fight to the end, people!
