George Wills says, " Maybe it's best for Republicans to lose."
"Let the market forces work!" The round table cheers about Rumsfeld.
Well, quite a while back I remember a post by someone that extolled that virtue of a Republican win because the Democrats always have to clean up Republican messes. This gives Republicans time to rest and reorganize. But nevertheless it is looking like the Dems will make a come back. However, by coming back early in Nov. we will be in there trying to make things look better during Bush's last term in office. So, if that's all that happens, the Republicans will have "time off" to go back to their base to prepare for 2008.
We are going to have to also reach out and increase the membership of people who call themselves Democrats. I think increasingly there are Republicans that now call themselves independents. We need to educate and convert those independents and move them back to the Dem side. Yes, some of them have different values but with some good education and explanation I am hoping we can change their way of thinking and be a little bit "purple". Purple as in Red/Blue values.
(I don't mean gay but not that there's anything wrong with it.)
One thing I know is that the real TexMex is purple. Maybe the deepest shade of indigo.
As a former teacher, from Texas, Hispanic, etc. I am sort of to the right side of some issues and fire breathing lefty on others. I found by simple moving from one location to another your position on that scale moves. From Texas to Ontario was interesting, as Ontario is very lefty so I was righty. Move out the Alberta, now I am a card carrying Progressive Conservative. I have to figure out who to vote for Premier. But wait, I am still a Dem and have my absentee ballot in hand. Can I be right and left???
