My work bible is the National Journal's 2006 Almanac of American Politics, which features info on every congressional district and top elected official (Governor, Rep, and Senators). I'd be hard-pressed to do my job without it.
On Friday I couldn't find it. I looked all over but it seemed to be misplaced. I thought nothing of it. That is, until Friday night when I got Ari ready for bed. I noticed the Almanac was sitting on his bed. I grabbed it, ready to take it back when he said, "No, it's my book!" I shrugged, and rather than fight it, I decided I'd take it back later that night after Ari was asleep.
So I put him in bed and asked him what book he wanted to read. He pointed to the Almanac. I said, "That's a boring book, it has no pictures." He answered, "It has pictures!" So I cracked it open, and yes, it had diagrams of congressional districts and head shots of the politicians. Not the sort of pictures I'd think would interest a 3-year-old. I looked at him weird, asked him if he wanted to read Curious George instead, but he insisted on the Almanac.
So we flipped through every page. He'd point to the head shots, and ask, "What's his/her name?" 50 governors, 435 congressmen, and 100 senators, and he didn't get bored of the game. He demanded we do the same Saturday night. By Sunday, I had mercifully hidden the Almanac away so I could read him something a little more, er, age appropriate.
