The OH-Sen debate coverage will be led by Steve Mancuso of Miami University in Ohio - a nationally acclaimed debate judge and the coach of the Miami University debate team in Oxford, OH.

DebateScoop is a collaborative effort between Wake Forest University, the University of Mary Washington and the Open Source Debate Foundation (OSDF) whose mission is to promote debate as a method for producing, organizing and assessing knowledge and forging sound decisions on the important issues of the day.

•  Did not go very well

  Brown could not get a word in edge-wise.  Whenever he talked, DeWine immediately talked over him.

  •  and Brown didn't really expand on incompetence

    and got caught a little flat-footed when asked what to do now in Iraq - he should have had a theme, as in DeWine is a failure as a candidate, DeWine was a failure on intelligence committee, DeWine is a failure as a supervisor for the war - lots of stuff.  He DID get in a pretty good statement about being for hte middle class, at the end.

    •  don't think this debate will sway voters

      one way or the other.  Brown is just a little bit ahead, and that is BEFORE all the bad news of the last few days.

      DeWine REFUSED to call for Hastert and Reynolds resignations even if they knew about Foley emails and failed to act to protect the congressional pages.

        Despite its prominence now, is probably irrelevant to how Ohioans will vote, IMO. Jobs and Iraq.

      Never too early to get the up and comers involved!

      My experience was in extemp. speaking, not debate, but it was a skill that I never would have developed, otherwise.

      NFL=National Forensic League (speech team) for those of you who only think of pigskin and astroturf ;-)

•  Russert is a horrible mediator

  He let DeWine step all over Brown (and Brown was too polite to react in kind, although I wouldn't have minded if he had). Very bad form. Democrats should refuse to use his show for debates from here on out.

    The questions and issues he used favored Brown.

    The format seems to have no clear rules for respondents, interruptions, etc., however. I think that's the source of some of your appropriate frustration.
