Breeding Scorpions

The picture in my mind's eye was clear, crystal clear. A proud Islamic soldier shouldering a massive weapon screaming "I have a stinger and I'm not afraid to use it."
So I asked him where he had gotten the stinger.
"Why from you, of course."
"And you know who I am?"
"You are the mother, the mother of all mothers, giving birth to me, a new species of desert dweller. You have what you selected, a host of militia trained and equipped, then set loose to breed terror throughout Iraq."
Negropointe redux?
If this scenario is somewhat true, which it is to certain extent, then we are breeding the violence, whatever our short term and long term motivations. What if the US Military/Republican War Industrial machine is bored with just playing war games? What if they are actively training an enemy worthy of their idea of the last grand fight? And equipping that army as well, fueling a cycle of productivity based on destruction. The United States is the largest dealer of arms on the planet. There is a huge current that feeds this machine. And realistically, we can't cut the current completely. Could we ever consider using these awesome powers for good instead of evil?
And the evil is we are putting precious energy into destructive activities instead of exploring constructive projects that could rival the thrill of anihilation, that pull toward
the Dark Side.
And that just breaks my heart.
Don't it just break your heart. Haditha
Don't it just break your heart. Darfur
Don't it just break your heart. Gaza
Don't it just make you want to start something.
Does it really need to fall apart
Before you're willing to do something?
Can't we do something?
Will you do something?
Will you stand up and just say no?
No more torture
Stand up and just say no!
No more lying
Stand up and just say
Please, please, no more dying!
Will you stand up and say no?
And don't it just break your heart.
Don't it just break your heart. Baghdad
Don't it just break your heart. Beirut
Don't it just break your heart. Gaza, Rachel Corrie
