It seems to be the number one talking point in the Karl Rove playbook: When in doubt, blame Bill Clinton.
Or, when it's been revealed that a Republican Congressman from Florida has been seeking out sexual favors from young pages, the next talking point in the Karl Rove handbook is: Blame the gays.
And, finally, when your job as Speaker is on the line, the next talking point in the Karl Rove handbook is: Blame George Soros.
When Bush/Cheney stole the White House in 2000, they ran on a platform of "honor" and "integrity." Conservatives were appalled by the way Bill Clinton turned the White House into his own personal playground, so they needed two corporate shills who know nothing about "honor" and "integrity" to take back the White House and America from a morally corrupt individual.
Well, it turns out that Bush/Cheney look and talk the part of two individuals who shit and piss "honor" and "integrity", but they don't actually follow up on this beliefs.
Neither do Conservatives in general.
Conservatives have positioned themselves as the undisputed champions of Personal Responsibility. They've run on this platform for as long as I can remember. And, in the long run it's a recipe for disaster.
Politicians and pundits on the Right have constantly made excuse after excuse to extinguish the fire that the Foley scandal has brought to Washington D.C.
First it was blame the Gays, now it's blame the victims. Never once going on television to criticize Mark Foley for putting the party of Lincoln in greater danger than it already is. And, that's where it stops.
Conservatives know the danger this scandal can bring, and will go to great lengths to cover up Foley's Folly. Even if it means, smearing the young Pages who were targets of a Sexual predator.
The Right-Wing has a lust for power and they see the bigger threat in all this as not Foley, but Gays and George Soros, favorite targets that will probably draw the rabid members of their base to the polls.
After North Korea launched its Nuclear Test, Senator McCain pulled a page from Karl Rove's playbook and blamed Bill Clinton. No one knows what exactly North Korea blew up, but the same old story goes for the G.O.P. Blindly defend the policies of a failed administration, in order to win some votes.
The G.O.P. can no longer claim Personal Responsiblity as their own. When they've been caught, it's not of their character to own up to their mistakes and say, "I was wrong."
No.
Their true character is to place the blame on someone else's shoulders. Hoping Americans would be stupid enough to believe them.
It happened in the 2004 Presidential Election when George Bush could only run on "values" not on Iraq.
Forget about Iraq, the problem in America we face today is Gays getting married.
A platform like that easily seduces rural Americans who have no clue on what the political process in this country is, or how it operates. They just know one thing. Gays settling down is wrong.
But, that "values" platform in '04 was to sweep under the rug a host of major issues that was clearly important to this country.
And, not one, NOT ONE, Conservative took it upon themselves to speak out on those issues like the economy, Iraq, or the fact that 40 million Americans are without health care. It's...
Blame the gays and the abortionists, they're the real problem.
The Foley scandal was a hysterical glimpse into how Conservatives in this day in age operate. They can't owe it to themselves and the nation to speak the truth. They hide behind excuses like if they were an protective parent.
They see the country at it's most critical stage, but don't offer any solutions or accountablity. They just blame others for the problems that they've created.
And, truth be told, if I were a Conservative, I would do everything I could to blame others, because it seems that the Right-Wing doesn't have a plan to move this nation out of its direction that Bush has led us.
If Conservatives are bold enough to preach "personal responsiblity" and "integrity" to the masses, they should begin to preach it to themselves. Because, there's not one group of people in this country that needs a course on "personal resposibility" than the folks from the Republican party.
