Larry Kissell has had a banner day. First, there's the Constituency Dynamics Poll. Let's get that out of the way first:
NC-08
Robin Hayes 44
Larry Kissell 51 ... D+7
Conducted: Oct. 8-10
MoE +/- 2.9-3.1
Larry is leading Robin Hayes OUTSIDE the margin of error in a race that according to Cook and others is still "Likely Republican." Why is it still "Likely Republican?" The short answer is "Money, honey." Larry ended last quarter with $88.94 cash on hand ... and that's why Larry needs you to give your $88.94 to help him take back the 8th District.
One thing Kos mentioned was that in many races, the "Voter Motivation Index" looked better for Republicans than Democrats, meaning that Republicans were more likely to go to the polls. In NC-08, Republican voter motivation is 7.57 out of 9, versus 7.40 for Democrats. .17 isn't outside of the margin of error, and some of those Democrats are Jessecrats, so at first glance it doesn't look like there's anything good or bad in the "Voter Motivation Index" for Larry, and certainly nothing worthy of distress. On the whole, this poll is great news for Larry but no reason to slouch.
But wait, there's more! Earlier today, Gov. Warner dropped out of the 2008 Presidential race, leaving John Edwards as the sole southern man with a serious shot. John Edwards just so happens to be making his first major political appearance after this announcement at a
rally for Larry Kissell in Concord. National media are bound to be there, so Larry will be on CNN for a second time (the first was for the
$1.22 a gallon gas event).
Now, I know not everyone can give $88.94 to just one candidate. But if you have the money, please think about giving it to Larry - he's one of us, he's not a millionare, he's going to take action on Iraq, and he's going to make a difference in the lives of real people.
If you can't give but want to help, you can find out ways to help Larry in this diary, or you can just go to helplarry.com. Jerry Meek, North Carolina's DP chairman, is coming out to help just like the rest of us.
Larry's an amazing guy, and with your help, we can take a race that everyone was writing off in April and turn it into a movement that earns a great but humble American Democrat a seat in Congress.
