First there was the girl in South Carolina who wanted to wear a t-shirt to school with the Stars and Bars on it, to celebrate her "family heritage."
Now a group of Christian students are going to court for the right to wear t-shirts and hang posters with "warnings" against homosexual activity, as it is a sin according to the Bible.
This group of students was allowed to have a Bible club at school and to post announcements about meeting times, etc. Apparently this isn't enough for them. They want to be able to air their views in public school. After all, gay students can wear rainbow t-shirts and advocate their lifestyle.
You know what? I feel like an idiot even posting this. I'm pandering to the smokescreen behind which our Fearless Leader is hiding.
But still, as a believer in freedom of speech, I wonder how far is too far. These thorny apparel questions draw a line in the sand and make school uniforms look very, very, very appealing.
I substitute teach in an inner city school with a strict uniform policy. But uniforms deprive everyone of their freedom of speech.
So what is the answer here?
