Wow, I expected to find a lot of bitterness and vitriol from FreeRepublic.com over tonight's wins. They did not let down at all. Follow me for choice quotes.
The first thread relayed here had only the first few wins (hence the praise for the lack of wins of "lefty" movies):

"King Kong, Narnia honoured with four Academy Awards (George Clowney wins an Oscar too!)"
Ann Coulter, on Drudge radio tonight, was calling the snub of Brokeback and failure to award the suicide bombers' film an Oscar "a strategic retreat" by the left, and something normal Americans should find heartening.
How would Coulter know what normal Americans want? And why would anyone bring Coulter on to discuss the entertainment field? Isn't that like asking Roger Ebert to comment on Washington? Please, find someone who knows Hollywood to report on what Hollywood's thinking. And unless people are part of the Academy, they don't vote for the Academy Awards. Sorry, Ann.
Clooney's acceptance speech made me sick. He is so smug, and so snide. His comment, "I am proud to be out of touch", is just indicative of what a jerk he is. We should all remember that when ANY of his movies came out, and say "we are PROUD to be OUT of touch with him, and his silly movies. And he had to remind everyone that he had been named sexiest man of the year. He is absolutley in love with himself!!!
It is called cynicism. He is accepting the award despite so many people saying he was out of touch with what Americans enjoy. Traitorous, whatever, the right has strung him up for having his own opinion and dissenting against Bush. His silly movies make money, he won an award for his acting, and had two other nominations tonight for his work last year. I'd say that his smugness was appropriate.
Why o why does someone with such twisted views have to have the face of an angel??? Oh life sometimes isn't fair. I guess I'll always have Mel, tho :-)
Weird, I guess Mel is a righty simply because he made a film about Christ? Do the righties even know that Mel is a harder Catholic (splinter church) than even John Kerry?
Thanks for your comments....I didn't watch the awards ceremony because I was afraid that it would be a celebration of liberal hedonism.
Am glad that King Kong, Narnia, March of the Penguins won awards. Best Picture went to Crash and not to the gay cowboy movie.
Liberal hedonism, like, I don't know, taxing the poorer people while giving tax breaks to oil companies and energy companies who post record profits? Promising to give jobs to those who live in Katrina-ravaged areas to rebuild their own homes, then contracting Halliburton to take care of it? You mean that kind of hedonism?
Clooney is such a disgrace to the country.
Politically correct tool.
Uh, wha?
The Oscars are to Hollywood as May Day is to the Communists. I don't watch either of them.
All right, didn't take long to bring back the Commie reference! You never let us down in your predictability, Freepers!
And now . . .
http://www.freerepublic.com/...
"'Crash' Pulls Off Best-Picture Oscar"
Well, the gay movie lost its steam, and CRASHED....
And queue up the fifty or so similar puns . . .
Please tell me the light-on-the-loafers cow"boy" movie went home empty-handed...please, please!!
And even more gay bashing jokes . . .
That commercial failure (Brokeback) was nominated for 8 Oscars; did it win any?
In Freeper land, facts and reality don't matter. Production budget: $14 Million. Worldwide gross: $129.9 Million. Making more than it cost to make . . . in Freeper land makes it a commercial failure?
The righties have Hollywood ALL figured out.
And my facts come from Box Office Mojo: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/...
[Brokeback Mountain] won 3 Oscars. But so did King Kong... LOL!
Such wit . . . err . . . why's it funny again? Because another spectacular movie won as many awards as BBM? Or because it didn't get all the awards some people were assuming it would get? Either way, I still don't understand the punchline.
Good, I am so glad that Crash won, because it deserved to. I have always enjoyed Matt Dillion. Thank goodness that Broke-back Mountain lost, because wouldn't you know it, it was it was directed by an Asian, since when does someone from China know anything about being a cowboy?
Who's xenophobic again? And BBM lost best picture and a few other awards, but still managed to give Lee best director and had best adapted screenplay. Those are respectable awards anywhere. So I doubt it went away a loser tonight.
3 Oscars, when the cowgirls were expected to take home 8? I call that a moral victory for those of us who find the whole concept reprehensible...and King Kong is more of a Man than those "cowboys" :)
So subject matter is all that is concerned with awards? Or is it that objectionable material should not be respected or honored because people don't like hearing about it? Stupid liberals and their hedonistic ways, always pushing their agenda onto everyone else. They should be awarding films that ban abortion or homosexuals or give rich people more tax breaks or start unilateral wars based on lies. Those are honorable things!
Looks like Brokeback got rear ended.....
Crickets won't even chirp for that one.
I never heard of Crash. They told me that that Brokeback Mountain thing was the most significant, most innovative movie of modern times. What happened?
Who's they? I've heard of how Good Night and Good Luck, Crash, Walk the Line and King Kong were going to win nearly all their awards, too. People speculate all they want, but it never matters until the envelopes are opened.
Personally, I felt Kong should have swept the Oscars--all categories, in fact. In fact, it should have been an ALL King Kong Oscar ceremony. I loved the film.
The only one in the running for best movie that I saw was Crash. I expected to hate it, but ended up enjoying it. At least Gay Cowboys Eating Pudding didn't win, that would have been insufferable.
Much like having that much bigotry and hate wihin makes the world enjoyable? Odd that the left is always the bitter name-calling morons who have no ideas of their own.
No...the best part was the Palestinian movie, PARADISE NOW lost. We wondered how all the Jews in the audience would sit and clap about a movie glorifying suicide bombers. But I'm happily surprised at Hollywood for doing the right thing.
But of course, the movie about the Jewish hit squad deserved to be applauded? Oh, yeah, it's okay to be good about violence going one way, not the other. It's a movie, with significant cultural material. Just like Munich. That's why it was nominated.
You can enjoy a film without subscribing to its material. Otherwise there would be tons of underground boxing clubs or numerous other motion picture references.
Recount!! Exit-polls said Brokeback would win by a butt-load!! Recount!! Call David Boises!!
* yawns *
Good, the movie [Crash] suck (sic). It's your typical Hollywood liberal portrayal of race in America.
Yeah, because there are no racial issues in today's America.
No pudding at the after-Oscar parties tonight?
The gay caballeros faded in the stretch.
"Hollywood" got cold feet. At the end of the day, the liberal Democrat vermin pushed the fudge packers of "Brokeback Mountain" overboard. Jon Stewart was an utterly complete failure as ahost and should be selling bagels in the Bronx, NY. I said the movie "Brokeback Mountain" will cause more damage to gays then it will benefit them. This fact is now coming into focus!!!
So let me get this straight . . . There's no First Amendment rights guaranteed to dissent or protest, but you can sure spill out all the hate speech you want?
Ah, yes, because in Freeper land, you can say whatever you want about that which you don't like, but no one dare say anything truthful but negative about anything they DO like. Because apparently the extreme right never grew up and matured like so many other adults have?
Crash wins.
Brokeback does not.
Matt Drudge wails and moans and waits for the next gay movie to be nominated so he can have more stories about it than whetever is the important news of the day.
Hey, perhaps someone with some clarity. Because the "liberal Hollywood" scumbags honoring their own might not be as important as Bush allowing unlimited fissile material for India but telling Pakistan they get nothing. Just maybe destabilizing Asia farther than it is may not be a good idea.
It would be nice if it comes out in another language so I can buy the DVD, can't stomach Morgan Freeman, leftist. Otherwise, it was a masterpiece.
Because of a person's political opinions, that person's VOICE is intolerable? Someone should inform the Freepers that DVDs normally come with subtitles in English, so you can read instead of listen.
Not sheepherders...they were gerbil ranchers
My ultra-conservative son said the same thing - - 'Crash' is not an overly judgmental film, nor is it accusatory, overbearing, politically correct, or "in-your-face" in any way. He says it's a flat-out great movie.
I think the Academy got it right.
Let the, "Oh that'th thimply ridiculeth!", wails of the sodomy community begin.
What a way to raise a kid, as a homophobe. Just like abortion, just because you're not against it doesn't mean you're actively promoting it to everyone. You can refrain from being a homophobe and not be interested in homosexuality at all. Go figure.
So, there are numerous more pages to go, and I feel too filthy to continue into the hate-filled world of Freepers. But, just for those who fear going, here's what they're talking about on a couple of their stories.
Surprised?
