Is Bush Preparing for Exile? Buys 98,842-acre farm In Paraguay

There is a funny town in Guanajuato, filled with ex-Mayors from all of the other cities in the state. The reasons they live in this funny little town, albeit beautiful, is because they looted, stole or did other things during their administration that behooved them to relocated there. It was an open secret and a very interesting place to take in the horse races on Saturday, where one can expect to drink polque with hefes de hefes. So where better for Bush to go than Latin America for exile? I mean, besides the stunts his father pulled down there.

So from Prensa Latina, we get this offering:

Buenos Aires, Oct 13 (Prensa Latina) An Argentine official regarded the intention of the George W. Bush family to settle on the Acuifero Guarani (Paraguay) as surprising, besides being a bad signal for the governments of the region.

Luis D Elia, undersecretary for the Social Habitat in the Argentine Federal Planning Ministry, issued a memo partially reproduced by digital INFOBAE.com, in which he spoke of the purchase by Bush of a 98,842-acre farm in northern Paraguay, between Brazil and Bolivia.

D Elia considered this Bush step counterproductive for the regional power expressed by Presidents Nestor Kirchner, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Evo Morales, Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro.

The official pointed out that this situation could cause a hypothetical conflict of all the armies in the region, and called attention to the Bush family habit of associating business and politics.

Holy cow, a 98,842-acre farm? In Paraguary? At least he will have somewhere to run to now. But for style points, he should have moved in with the forgotten German families hidden in the hills of Argentina. But where did he get this money? Every business venture I know of concerning Bush was a failure at best.

I wonder if he had to go grovel to his daddy for the money, or sweet talk his mom. But what a funny place to choose for exile, if such a thing happens. This is like a father buying his son a townhouse because said son is now a persona non-grata at the Frat House.

But George, if you need running money or a bus ticket to your hacienda in Paraguay, call me, for the love of Texas I will oblige for the next one leaving town.

UPDATE: Though I always find it amusing to be on the recommended list, I am sure with less than a month till the mid-term election, the slot I am currently manhandling would be better served with analysis or issues concerning voters. Vote Shane Sklar TX-14.

        Speakin' of furrin' languages, the first thing that came to my mind when I saw "Paraguay" was what an Italian misspelling of the name, turning it into a word, would mean (and how apt it would be)...

        This would be "paraguai", and it would mean "protection from trouble". For example, a "paraurti" is a car bumper, i.e. protection from blows, a "parafulmine" is a lightning rod, a "paracadute" is a parachute (protection from falls)... and so on.

        I wonder if any of the land Bush just bought was taken from indigenous farmers?

        Paraguay is apparently the poorest country in South America, and ripe for being gobbled up by a--holes who hide behind corporate protections.

      but I'm pretty sure I read recently that that particular retirement benefit for (future?) ex-presidents had been changed, and that after one's term ended, the free SS protection would limited to "only" the first 5 (10?) years. After that it, or at least a percentage of it, has to be paid for by the protectee.
      Actually, I believe the little pr*ck, would be a lot more comfortable hiring his protection out to some outfit even less concerned about observing the "niceties" than the SS has been for the past six years. (If he doesn't want to go with Blackwell, I'm sure his neighbors will be able to recommend someone.)

    I assume all Bush family decisions are about power and money. 41 made the move from Connecticut to Texas. That proved to be a shrewd move politically and financially.           So how much you wanna bet that part of Bush's huge land purchase has to do with behind-the-scenes and undocumented negotiating of, let's say, a few million unaccounted-for dollars of Iraq reconstruction money, in exchange for a promise of no extradition?
