Skinner Campaign draws big hitter endorsements from Obama and Kennedy for US Congress bid.
Detroit, MI - US Senator Barack Obama visited Michigan Friday to rally the top of Michigan's ticket - Governor Jennifer Granholm and Senator Debbie Stabenow. At a fundraiser in Detroit, the rising Democratic star who is often mentioned as a potential presidential candidate, offered up some strong words of support for Democratic Congressional Candidate Nancy Skinner.
"I first met Nancy Skinner on the campaign trail. Nancy was my one of my sharpest opponents in that race and I heartily endorse her in this race." See the video at www.skinnerforcongress.com.
Obama's campaign manager in that race, Jim Cauley, has been an informal advisor on team Skinner. Nancy was one of seven Democrats who competed in the US Senate primary in Illinois. Knollenberg acknowledged to the Detroit Jewish News Thursday that the race was "very close".
Skinner also received the endorsement of Robert F. Kennedy this week, Kennedy's endorsement confirms that Nancy's stance on environmental issues reflects the broad-based support of voters nationwide on the need for environmental progress. Beginning today, the Skinner campaign starting airing an ad featuring Robert Kennedy Jr. endorsing Skinner because of her leadership on global warming. The ad can be viewed online at www.skinnerforcongress.com.
Skinner is a Royal Oak native and most recently was the morning show host at 1310 AM Detroit's Progressive Talk. Her commitment to the environment and proposed plan to move oil industry subsidies to the auto industry are key reforms that Skinner developed by her many relationships here in Michigan. Skinner's parents and four siblings live in the district.
Skinner's opponent Joe Knollenberg has repeatedly attacked Skinner for her failed bid but Skinner considers losing to Barack Obama a badge of honor. "I lost to a rising star in the Democratic Party, but now I am positioned to support many of our common positions" said Skinner. "On that campaign, Barack and I shared many of the same values and positions. It was obviously his time, I learned a lot from him and believe that my time has arrived."
