Go to Congressman Tom Reynolds' house website (my despised congressman) at
http://reynolds.house.gov/. If there was EVER a way to politicize a disaster, it's to do what Reynolds says we should do.
What does his website say? FYI, the bolded print is bolded because Reynolds website bolded it.
After touring the damage of the Buffalo-area snowstorm with Governor George Pataki, Congressman Thomas M. Reynolds (R-Clarence) announced with the governor that a State Disaster Emergency has been declared for area counties. For help and information, contact Congressman Reynolds' office at 585-663-5570. Also, the American Red Cross has provided the following phone number: 1-866-GET-INFO.
Just to be fair, there's more on his welcome page. Does not take away from my point.
The rest after that says: To report hazardous power situations contact NYSEG at: 1-800-572-1131. Three shelters have been opened in the region at the following locations: Albion High School, Holley Elementary, and Medina Middle School.
If there's any chance Reynolds will pull this one out, it's because of politicization tactics like these. No better way to distract the electorate about urging foley to run for reelect than act as the area's "hero."
This is politicization of a disaster at its WORSE. Sure, this disaster is wayyy less awful than Katrina (and i do mean wayyy), but hundreds of thousands of people were without heat in frigid conditions for at least three days, with much flooding. We still don't even have power. And Reynolds highlights a district office phone number in bold as the primary # to call during this time of crisis, and the Red Cross # as an afterthought. I can't wait to call that number tomorrow and see how they're gonna entice me to vote for my savior, Tom Reynolds. I also can't wait to see Reynolds where he belongs: K street.
