Nancy Boyda may knock off five term incumbent Jim Ryun, a former track star and undistinguished GOP congressman in the Second District. This is a district that was gerrymandered not too long ago to split the liberal (sane)vote from Lawrence (Douglas County, one of two Democratic-leaning counties in the entire state.
Now it appears that that may have backfired. Instead of diluting the liberal vote in Lawrence in an effort to defeat Democratic incumbent Dennis Moore in the 3d, the redistricting may have spread sanity to the 2d District, where Nancy Boyda, a moderate Democrat with a business background, has gained the endorsements of several newspapers from small towns in southeastern Kansas as well as the Kansas City Star.
Ryun had Cheney in for a fundraiser last week and they raised a couple of hundred thousand dollars for the GOP incumbent, but recent polls show Democratic challenger Morrison ahead of crazy Phil Kline in the Attorney General's race. THIS WOULD BE A HUGE WIN. The mainstream press has not noticed this one yet.
