UPDATE: Please recommend to pull in more information!
Researching the little news story of Jenna Bush's jaunt to Paraguay to do some good turned out to be like unraveling a sweater by pulling on a loose thread.
Item: The 92,000 acre ranch is on the west edge of the world's largest aquifer.
Item: Paraguay is now photographing all visitors, using a system provided by South Korea.
Item: The Moon Unification Church has made huge land purchases in the same area as the projected Bush purchase.
The USA is building a huge airport and military base in the area, called a CSL, at Mariscal Estigarribia, (See map)
to protect Brasilian natural gas fields 150 miles away. No one else in the area would let them do that.
Paraguay is notoriously corrupt. This area, with three borders intersecting, has also become a center for immigration from the Mideast, and terrorists groups such as Hizbollah are reputed to be there.
All this and a place to retire, with lots of nasty brush.
Item: The Paraguayan legislature approved a bill to prevent US troops from being prosecuted for crimes committed in Paraguay.
Any other ideas? I will post links for this stuff. Routine Google searches. Paraguay, Acuifero Guarani, Jenna Bush, CSL, Unification Church, Brazzil, Mariscal Estigarribia.

Update: Re the unimportance of Estigarribia: I had a Military Policeman friend who went off on a little training mission once in 1965 to some little steamy jungle place of no real importance to help out the corrupt government with its problems. I wonder what ever happened there?
