Well, I had just wiped my eyes dry from listening to KOs statement on the gutting of habeus corpus, when I spotted Moyers on America starting on PBS. I saw the last episode, and could not pass this one up.
Last weeks topic was Jack Abramoff. This week...
The Internet at Risk. If anyone missed last weeks show, or this weeks, you are missing some of the best television of the decade. Moyers, in his soft, unhysterical style, puts the manipulation of Congress by monied interests under a glaring spotlight. His show is lengthy, he is able to get into his subject matter in great detail, with in-studio and location interviews.
Most here are painfully aware of the attempts by the phone companies and the cable companies to steal the last bastion of free speech left in this country, known to us as "net neutrality". But even I, who have read every diary and link on the topic that I came across here, was astonished at the audacity of the claims made by these two industries, and the complete willingness of the FCC and certain congressman to give the "duopoly" whatever they want.
One of the scariest topics raised was the possibilty that the "lame duck" congress will go back in session after the elections and sell our free speech and our "right to know" to the highest bidder. There is currently a live discussion on the topic at PBS.org. I know it's hard to tear yourself away from DKos, but this discussion is about the future of websites like this. I'm heading over there now. The more you and I know about this subject, the more we can enlighten our friends and family.
Each one teach one.
