Help Donating Money

Sat Oct 21, 2006 at 06:40:54 PM PDT

So a friend of mine asked me for some names of good house candidates to donate to (because I follow politics) and they wanted to help out in the democratic House races.  They also asked if I knew if any of the candidates and genuinely good people because they have had too many local politicians in their area who are sleaze. The truth is I really don't know any of the candidates all that well. So does anyone have suggestions? Or a candidate they can vouch for?

in Illinois 19 is a great candidate. He is trying to unseat John Shimkus, who is the head of the now infamous page board. Danny is a college instructor who serves as a city councilman. He has the support of labor and would be a great progressive to replace a rubber stamp of Bush. The race has tightened but Shimkus has more money. He would be a very good candidate to support.

Danny Stover would be an excellent choice. I have gotten to know Danny personally over the past several months ... having been a volunteer for his campaign. Every time that I see Danny (which is often) or listen to him speak to constituents, I become even more motivated to work as hard as I can to get him elected. He has been appalled by what President Bush and the Republican controlled Congress has done to our country and to the middle and poor class citizens of America. Check his bio and postions on issues at his  website.
Danny will truly represent the working class. He has recieved no money from corporations and will owe them nothing unlike Rep. John Shimkus who has an incredibly long list of corporate donors.
Danny has ran his campaign on an extremely frugal budget. He spends all of his money judiciously. Any and all donations will be used wisely and effectively ... just like he will with taxpayer's dollars.

It might help to get as close to home as you can.

That said, we here in Washington absolutely love both Peter Goldmark in WA-05 and Darcy Burner in WA-08.

And I'm very partial to my Dartmouth '72 classmate Paul Hodes, running in NH-02.

      •  John Laesch meets your friends criteria (0+ / 0-)

I have always reguarded Sen. Paul Simon to be the paradigm of integrity. John Laesch stands on the same level as he does.

John has never stooped to taking money from anyone questionable - and was written off by nearly everyone until Denny got caught.  I can't claim that John would be where he is right now without Hastert's help, but I can claim he was prepared with a great ground team prepared to deal with the event.

Late next week polls that have already been taken will probably be leaked.  What I believe they will show is Hastert and Laesch at 47% each, undecided at 6% with slippage coming from Hastert's previously decided voters.

At this point voters know who Hastert is and they are looking for an alternative.  Right now he is cash short - but is closing in on that gap.

I would urge everyone capable of max-ing out on John Leasch's campaign to do so.  The win will be historic, and the candidate is prepared.

I'm a volunteer but have managed campaigns before.  This one effectively uses every penny it gets.

  •  How do your friends feel about ole Denny Hastert? (2+ / 0-)

I haven't heard anything bad about his opponent, John Laesch. Him taking out Hastert would be amazing. I'm sure he'd appreciate the help.

  •  Please, ask him to donate to Gary Trauner (0+ / 0-)

who is running against Barbara Cubin in Wyoming.  We only have 1 representative and donations go a long way in this neck of the woods.  It would be greatly appreciated.  Trauner has had some good ads on TV, but in the past week, I have received 3 expensive, color, card-stock type big postcard things in the mail - either from Cubin or the Republican party that are spewing lies about Trauner.  It is so infuriating.  Cubin is obviously really worried.  She has NEVER campaigned like this before.  And I am a registered Democrat and have never written a letter or an email or made a phone call that was supportive of her or her positions.  It boggles my mind why they would be sending them to Democrats who have so obviously made up their minds, but that's how much money she has.

  •  Lois Herr in PA 16th (0+ / 0-)

Your friend can learn more at loisherr.us
but long story short..Lois rain in 04 and got 37% of the vote with just 80,000 and 8 months working...this time she has more than tripled the $ raised (with no DCCC help I might add) AND she's been working since the day after 04 election ended!  As her scheduler I can vouch that she is ALL over the district meeting voters and talking to people from Reading to West Chester to Lancaster and all small towns in between while her opponent smugly sits by expecting to pull of the easy win.  Right now the numbers look good, but the biggest challenge is making the Repubs and Indies in the district realize they DO have an alternative...and a fantastic alternative at that.  Lois is the first real challenge her opponent has had in years, but because of our media here not everyone knows about her BUT the numbers show that when they hear about her they like her and will vote for her.  We CAN win this seat, but we need more commercials and that means ad buys and that means $.  Please, people, any help anyone can give is so appreciated there are no words for it.  PA's 16th is one of those perfect opportunities to show the other side that's there's no such thing as safe!
    Thanks for reading :)
