We know that there are a lot of sleazy ads running this time around. The Republicans are accusing the democrats of
wanting Osama to kill us all, they are accusing Democrats of being unpatriotic, wanting to raise your taxes $3,200 per married couple, telling legal immigrants that they could be jailed if they attempt to vote, but some of the sleaze merchants really take the cake.
In Wisconsin's 3rd district, Paul Nelson (R)-wingnuttia has been running a sleazefest smorgasborg in attempting to defeat incumbent democrat Ron Kind. His attempts have been so thoroughly disgusting that even Republicans in the state are distancing themselves from the effort. (more on the flip)
Vernon Robinson, lunatic wingnut in NC-10 decided to go after incumbent Brad Robinson for voting for the National Institutes of Health budget, which had some studies tucked into it on different matters of sexuality. We wouldn't want to study that however, so he first ran the ad, attacking Brad Miller for "wanting to study" Vietnamese prostitutes, and transgendered eskimoes. Watching the ads, you might think that Miller himself signed up to do it personally.
Paul Nelson, our lunatic in Wisconsin, bought the rights to the ad from the makers, and updated it for the good folks in Wisconsin. He made a few changes though that got it banned from tv.
The ad then goes on to list topics of social research that were included in a funding bill for the National Institutes of Health for which Kind and the majority of the Congress, Republican and Democrat voted. The topics include "the bisexual, transgendered and two-spirited Aleutian Eskimos," "the sex lives of Vietnamese prostitutes," "the masturbation habits of old men" and "to pay teenage girls to watch pornographic movies with probes connected to their genitalia."
A blazing red "XXX" is stamped across the screen. Local folks have been so repelled by the ad that the Republican Party of Wisconsin went out of its way to denounce the commercial and ask Nelson to remove it from the Internet.
In the age of AIDS, sexual ignorance can be deadly. When Republicans are under fire for covering up predatory moves on young boys by one of their own, sexual ignorance could even be politically fatal.
Not satisfied with stealing an ad, and making it even worse, Nelson has gone on to hit a new low in sleaze and logic. Logic never was a strong character of these folks, and the truth is just an inconvenience, but follow along with this other story of how congressman Ron Kind is in favor of pedophilic serial killers.
First, the Republican Party of Wisconsin ran commercials attacking Kagen, who runs four allergy clinics, for the common practice among doctors and dentists of filing lawsuits against patients who don't pay their bills. It was difficult to understand why Republicans would be opposed to business owners collecting debts from deadbeat customers. At first, it appeared the message was that Kagen, a wealthy physician funding his own campaign, had built his fortune through strong-arm tactics.
But a follow-up mailing from Republicans revealed something far more unsavory. The mailing noted that many of the small claims cases on behalf of Kagen's clinics were filed by a "bloodthirsty" lawyer who had once represented Spanbauer, who was convicted of raping and murdering children in the '90s.
It's rare that repugnant campaign advertising manages to smear both doctors and lawyers simultaneously.
This is what is going on out in the land. Those of you in safe districts have no idea unless you look of how low and unethical these folks will go. Now if you use the same lawyer as some bad person, that means you personally endorse the bad person. Anybody with a lawyer out there, better start checking his/her client list. This was my wingnut expose of the day. Time for a hot shower with lots of soap, or terpentine.
