Last night Congressman Harold Ford Jr. and Bob Corker appeared live on CNN at the same time. (Yes, it is hard to believe Bob actually agreed to do it)
During the interview, Congressman Ford appealed to Corker to stop the negative ads about him and his family and focus on the real issues in this race. Nevertheless, Corker did not take him up on that offer. Instead, Corker went on to lie saying that he has never talked about his family during the race.
However, that was not the big development that came from the interview.
When questioned about the tacky ad the RNC has running, Corker said he nor his campaign had anything to do with it. He went on to say that it would be illegal under FEC laws for him or his campaign to coordinate with the RNC since they are an independent group and the ad is an independent expenditure.
However, while that may be true, Congressman Ford pointed out that there is more to the story than Bob is telling. The Congressman said that they have found out that the RNC spokesperson who has been commenting publicly about this ad travels around the state with Corker each and everyday.
The bottom line here is this: Bob said that he or his campaign could not talk directly to the RNC about the ad that is currently running slandering Congressman Ford. However, it actually turns out that Corker travels daily with the person from the RNC who is making comments about the ad. Sound fishy? You bet.
This could be a huge development. Did Corker and his campaign violate federal election laws by having coordination in this ad? I think Tennesseans need to know this.
The person in question is a women by the name of Camille Anderson. As mentioned above, she is a spokesperson for the RNC that travels with Corker around the state and the person who said the other day that the RNC would not pull the nasty ad they are running against Congressman Ford.
If I was a betting man, I would bet that this story has legs.
Because as we all know, laws are nothing to Bob Corker. He has a tendency to just ignore them and do as he pleases.
DEVELOPING...
Question: Bob says there can be no coordination between him/his campaign and the RNC about the ad. However, the person that is making public comments about the ad from the RNC is the same person who travels with Corker around the state every day. Does this not represent coordination? And if so, does this not breach FEC law?
Bob has some explaining to do.
