Remember what Henry Kissinger said about power being the ultimate aphrodesiac?
That's nothing, compared to the piece in the Washington Post Style section, fawning over Condi Rice's "powerful" fashion statement.
A sample:
Rice's coat and boots speak of sex and power -- such a volatile combination...(W)hen looking at the image of Rice in Wiesbaden, the mind searches for ways to put it all into context.Dominatrix! It is as though sex and power can only co-exist in a fantasy. When a woman combines them in the real world, stubborn stereotypes have her power devolving into a form that is purely sexual.
Could this possibly be a parody piece? Has
Jeff Gannon found a new position (don't even think of the pun) in the Washington Post?
Or is this knuckleheaded (knuckle-dragging?)reporter (and her editor) just totally unaware of the women's rights movement? (I mean, can you imagine writing this kind of piece for Colin Powell??? Or even Madelein Albright???) Is the post saying that the newest requirement for a woman to be a cabinet secretary in the Bush Administration that she look like a Faux News "infobabe" -- in leather???
You can read the entire Post fawn 'n fear piece here, with an accompanying photo. (My HTML skilss are not sufficient to include the photo; I'd welcome it in a comment.)
My own view is that something in Condi's outfit seems to be missing something ...a flash of color...that red arm-band with the white circle and the swastika, perhaps?
Maybe Jeff Gannon, Karl Rove and the White House press staff could give her some fashion tips --
"Fascist Guys for the State Gal", perhaps?
