Six Reasons to Contribute your Money and Time (phone from home!) to Jerry McNerney, Democrat for Congress against Richard Pombo in California's 11th District:

1. Because Jerry has over 20 years of experience developing renewable energy across California. If he wins, he'll use his expertise to create new jobs, protect the environment, and strengthen our national security through a Clean Energy Innovation Plan for America.

2. Because it's not just that Pombo is an awful Republican. Jerry McNerney is a good Democrat, with the courage to stand up for his values. Jerry's not running on tired campaign slogan of "I'm not the other guy." (But we are pretty happy he's not the other guy.)

Reasons 3 thru 6 after the jump . . .

3. Because here's what Jerry McNerney said about torture: "Democrats can bring fairness to justice without resorting to torture - that breaks 230 years of American tradition, it's against human rights and it's not a reliable way to get information." Pombo on torture? He voted for it.

4. Because the Billionaires for Bush really "love" Richard Pombo, especially his efforts to privatize our national parks for real estate developers and bring back the whaling industry. Huzzah!

5. Because when human beings are forced to work in sweatshop conditions that lead to prostitution and forced abortion, Jerry McNerney will stand up to stop these abuses. Well of course. Why would that even be in this list of 6? Because as chairman of the House Resources committee, Pombo has stifled proposals to stop these conditions in the Mariana Islands, a US territory where the workers don't have the benefits of US citizenship, and the government was represented by Jack Abramoff.

6. Because it is easy! You can make calls to the voters in Jerry's district with your home phone or cell phone by signing up at the campaign website. You can listen to voters' concerns and let them know that Jerry McNerney will develop new energy sources that will bring jobs to San Joaquin County and the Bay Area and improve America's economy, environment and national security from coast to coast.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
