More news from Michigan 8th District. It seems that the turmoil at the Lansing State Journal has already begun, stay tuned on this one. More in depth information and background on this hijacking of democracy below.
There's something goin on that's not quite right...- REM
Not that this headline should be surprising to anyone reading, but the Michigan 8th District is about to become embroiled in turmoil and we can help combat the GOP corruption machine in the Michigan 8th. Sources on the ground are reporting that the endorsement process by the districts largest newspaper, the Lansing State Journal (LSJ), took a very O'Reilly turn. This race between Democrat Jim Marcinkowski and Republican Mike Rogers is not being fought on a fair and balanced playing field. Corrupt money is influencing this election in more ways than one.
The LSJ printed their letter of endorsement http://www.lsj.com/... on October 24th and to say the least, it was suspect at best. A little history for you. In recent elections, the LSJ endorsed the Democratic candidate including their endorsement of Bob Alexander who sits a little to the left of Jim Marcinkowski on some issues. The LSJ Editorial Board decided not to endorse either candidate. Or did they?
The word on the ground is that 5 out of 6 of the LSJ Editorial Board had expressed their desire to endorse Jim Marcinkowski, with one Republican member of the Ed Board saying that they could not in good conscience endorse Mike Rogers. So, we live in a Democracy and 83% of the Ed Board expressed their opinion to endorse Jim Marcinkowski, right? Well, as you can see from the LSJ Endorsement letter, something smells rotten here.
So, who quashed the editorial process? I'm not certain, but one would imagine it's someone who has a say in the editorial process at the LSJ. The more important question is why they quashed it and who asked them to do it. Seeing as Marcinkowski has not released any polls because he's spent his money on media and staff and we know Rogers has internal polling, my hunch is that this race is way closer than Rogers thought it would be and keeping Marcinkowski down by not allowing Jim to get any free publicity is good news for the Rogers campaign.
So the silver lining is- we have a very competitive race in the MI 8th. What can we do? We can help Jim Marcinkowski get elected and we can let the LSJ know how disappointed we are with their process and demand to know what happened and why. You can help Jim by going to http://vote-jim.com/ and you can express your ire to the LSJ at http://www.lsj.com/... and/or email online@lsj.com . Jim's campaign can always use volunteers and some money. If only the DCCC would commit even minimal resources to the Marcinkowski campaign we could take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime campaign opportunity in the Michigan 8th district.
