BILL WINTER, CO-06: How to abandon the Troops AND your District!

Sat Oct 28, 2006 at 10:12:01 AM PDT

As most of you already know, I am Bill Winter and I am running for Congress in CO-06 against Tom Tancredo. You can learn more here:

http://winterforcongress.com/

I recently read an article talking about how the House passed a $448 Billion Military Spending Bill. You can read the article here:

http://www.foxnews.com/...

(yeah, I know--Fox News--but whaddya gonna do?)

Notice the 1.9 Billion dollar line item for "for new jammers to counter improvised explosive devices in Iraq and Afghanistan."

I also recently received a letter from a small Colorado-based defense contractor, EOJT, which has developed innovative products that could save American lives in Iraq. Their number one product is exactly the kind of jammer described above. In other words, the U.S. House of Representatives just authorized 1.9 BILLION dollars for development of jammers to protect our troops...

...and we have a guy who already has one ready to go right here in Colorado!

So what's the problem?

I'm glad you asked!

The company's CEO, veteran Jeff Bell, knew he would need an advocate in Washington to have a shot at competing with major defense manufacturers to secure a contract. So he naturally attempted to contact his Congressman, Rep. Tom Tancredo, but never received a response to repeated phone calls, faxes and letters.

Mr. Bell finally decided to contact me, as Tancredo's opponent, to see if I could help. I have been able to put him in direct contact with Senator Ken Salazar's office. Mr. Bell commented, "As a small business owner, it is a challenge to compete with the larger defense contractors. I was baffled as to why Representative Tancredo would not be interested in the possibility of bringing jobs to his own district while also protecting our troops."

One would think that a Colorado Congressman would at least TRY to get 10 million or so dollars of the 1.9 BILLION already appropriated for continued R&D for jammers to save the lives of our troops and bring jobs to his Colorado district. But he and his staff couldn't even be bothered to respond to Mr. Bell.

Tancredo is running with a slogan of "For A Secure America," but if he won't even help to secure the safety of our troops, or secure jobs for people in his district, how seriously are we supposed to take anything he says about security?

My friends, if ever there was a reason for you to help me beat this guy, and lord knows there are endless numbers of reasons, this is a great one.

Our campaign continues to gather momentum. We are so close. And not just us, but all the races in Colorado, from the Governor's race down to County races, are looking more and more BLUE. The Denver Post today released polling showing that Democrats are ahead in every State-wide race but one, and within the margin of error in that one.

I am asking you to support me financially today, either at our website at http://winterforcongress.com/ or via your favorite ActBlue page.

But if you don't want to donate to me, I understand, and I would then ask you to do one of the following.

Donate to your favorite Fighting Dem. We have some amazing veteran candidates who need your help. Two places to find all of them are here: http://vetpac.org/... and http://www.fighting-dems.com/

If you want to help us here in Colorado, then donate to one of our fantastic Congressional Candidates, or perhaps even more importantly, to our excellent Secretary of State Candidate, Ken Gordon. You can find them at these links:

We have nine days left to make a difference, my friends. Don't wake up on November 8th with even the smallest nagging thought that you could have done more!

Do it all now!

Our Country cries out to us. How we answer that call says a whole lot about who we are as people!

  •  For Tancredo (3+ / 0-)

its not ask not what you can do for your country, but what you can do for yourself.

Obviously in this pay to play administration, you must pay and if Mr. Bell didn't, he cannot play.

Good luck in defeating Tancredo.  I'll be donating in a minute.

    Just for being you.

I've been donating to candidates like it's water and my well is running dry (water is such a huge issue here in Colorado, LOL).

I've maxed out for only three candidates in my life:  Wes Clark, Mike Miles, and you, Bill.  And I don't regret a dime.

Just yesterday, Bill received the Operation Iraqi Freedom Veterans for Change endorsement. See it at Square State.Net.
More than anything, Bill Winter needs donation. Please send a little more his way and if you already have, thank you and consider sending more. All but the Winter race in Colorado has some outside help from the DCCC. We must show the most hateful Republican in Congress the door on November 7th.

  •  Thanks, Mr. Winter, for your energy and time (0+ / 0-)

I met our democratic candidate for our district, Andy Gold, last night, and he spoke also about how much money is going to "good ol' boy" natural gas contractors (Halliburton inlcluded) in the form of a tax rebate exclusive to the state of Colorado - wish I could remember the name, but I guess it's some $170 million dollars a year that Colorado is giving to the natural gas companies that no other state gives.

Do you know to which I refer, and are you doing anything about it?

  •  EOJT press release announces Winter endorsement (1+ / 0-)

The Chairman of EOJT has put out a Press Release endorsing Bill Winter. It's very positive of Bill (and Negative on Tom):

"Bill Winter is a Veteran and has a common sense approach to government. In my conversations and meetings with Bill he understands the value of a Veteran Owned Small Business and the potential for bringing high tech jobs to Colorado. Bill also is able to recognize when one of his constituents needs help in trying to present proven and deployed life saving gear to our servicemen and women.
    ...
Mr. Tancredo should pay a little more attention to what is going on in his home state of Colorado -- especially his own district. If you do not care about saving the lives of Americans -- then you surely cannot sincerely care about having a "Secure America".

On SquareState, I also pointed out how Tom has largely ignored and sometimes gone against the local space industry in CD-6. Even more recently, Tom has not said a word if he supports the new growth in local space-related employment. He probably would only care about our local technology economy if it involved "beaming" those with Hispanic names out of the country. He certainly doesn't seem to care a bit his own constituents. Soon we won't be his constituents anymore.
