Back when the Republicans took out their contract on Americans, they promised that term limits are needed to clean up politics. That, if elected, they would work hard and diligent the pass this very important issue.
HAH!
How many of these lying politicians are still in office after 12 years. The Republicans had control of the congress in 1994. They had control of the whole government for the last 5 plus years. They could have passed term limits at any time. They certainly rubber stamped enough tax cuts for their friends.
Now, there are the rumblings from Democratic politicians stating that public financing of elections are needed to clean up politics. Is this the next false issue that politicians will use to get elected and then come down with amnesia?
I believe in public financing of elections. The idealist in me believes that if you take the money (or bribes) out of elections, maybe, just maybe "our" elected officials will start passing laws that would benefit many, not just the rich. but the realist in me, the cynic in me asks would a politician actually vote against accepting money for their vote?
