After a morning of door-to-door canvassing in Middle Tennessee (where we met many Ford supporters), my husband and I decided not to face the crowd at Vandy for the final debate, but to instead watch it on TV. IT WAS BRILLIANT!
This will be quick. I'm sure there are other, more pithy analyses of the debate. But, without a doubt, the best thing that happened during the debate didn't have anything to do with any answer either of the candidates gave to any question. Instead, the best moments occurred when the debate was over, but the cameras were still running.
Both candidates walked to the edge of the stage. The audience flooded down -- and over to Harold. He stood on his side of the stage, shaking hands and reaching out to dozens of people. Corker stood on his side of the stage -- with no one there trying to greet him. Corker waved at some distant supporter, fidgeted on stage for a bit, and then left. Harold continued to greet people. Then, the audience broke out in a chant: HAROLD! HAROLD! HAROLD!
And all while the cameras were still rolling, and the room mic still live.
OUTSTANDING!
Stay strong!!
