KY-02 Lewis-R hometown paper endorses Challenger Weaver-D

Well the chickens are finally coming home to roost here in KY-02. Ron Lewis R-Cecilia has to be sweating after his hometown newspaper, the
News-Enterprise (Hardin County), endorsed
Col. Mike Weaver.
Thanks to the Bluegrass Report, which been doing a great job of keeping tabs on Kentucky Politics, for posting the entire editorial. Most of the news of late has centered on the KY-04 (Davis-R v. Lucas-D) and KY-03 (Northrop-R vs. Yarmuth-D).
More on the other side...
This past Friday I had to good forture of attending a hastily arranged rally for Col. Mike Weaver in Bowling Green. His good friend Sen. Max Cleland flew in for the second time this year to help defend one of his Band of Brothers against the recent Swift-boating tactics of Lewis.
The rally was attended by most of the Democratic candidates for State and Local offices from the district as well as 30-40 local supporters. Senator Cleland once again spoke eloquently of the character of Col. Weaver. It was an honor to be in his presence once again. We all left the rally with our spirits raised and confidence of a victory for Weaver at the polls next Tuesday. Here's the story from the Bowling Green (Park City) Daily News.
So far Lewis has avoided directly debating Weaver. Instead he has been holding "town hall" meetings via conference call where he takes questions from his constituents. Well one of my close friends took part in one of these calls and when it came turn for him to ask a question, he was abruptly disconnected from the call. Seems Lewis is taking his queues from Bush and Co. and not allowing any decenting voices to be heard. It's time from him to pack his bags and head back to Hardin County. Here's part of my friend's LTE
It is amusing to note that U.S. Rep. Ron Lewis refuses to debate, or even appear in public, with his challenger Col. Mike Weaver. It's almost like Ron cuts and runs when faced with a challenge.
My personal experience with his community calls is more of the same, after several calls saying that if I wanted to talk to the congressman, I could. So, I decided to do that and waited. After being on hold for 20 to 30 minutes, it was my turn. I was excited! As soon, however, as I asked my question, not a popular one with him or his constituency, a voice (not the congressman's) snapped, "Cut him off." My phone went dead.
If that's not cut and run, I don't know what is.
Finally, I'm still trying to track down recent independent polling for this race but I have heard rumors that the recent numbers put Weaver within 5 points. If anyone knows of any, please comment.
(Thanks for reading my first ever diary...)
