Supporters of the anti-gay amendment in Wisconsin started airing their
first television ad today. It features children talking about what would happen if "grandpa was a girl" or if "dad married another man."
Not surprisingly, the ad doesn't make mention of the second sentence of the amendment (banning any legal status "substantially similar to marriage") or of the fact that marriage is already illegal for gay couples under Wisconsin state law.
See the full ad here. It seems a little bizarre to me, and I'm not sure if the use of children in this way is particularly effective.
No matter what the rationale, amendment supporters are scared. The campaign to defeat the ban is looking stronger than ever, and polls are showing them closing in on the yes side.
Fair Wisconsin is gearing up for what looks like it will be the largest get out the vote operation in Wisconsin. They need as much support as possible in the final days.
