The letter to talk show host Stephanie Miller from "Sock" has spurred me once again to need to say that things are worse than we want to believe. A portion of the letter appears below (warning, the language is nasty); the unredacted version appears on Brad Blog. (

I wrote an email to Stephanie that I've included also. This is the best I can do to put into words the threat we all face (every American). I don't want to believe this, no one does, but if we continue to turn a blind eye, history repeats itself.
As with Cindy Sheehan the best thing that could happen to you would be seeing some WONDERFUL activist sticking an AK-47 up your Glory Holes and sending you into eternity. But this is not a threat as I am a paci-fist preferring to confront dumb fucks like you two cunts with words rather than violence. But I would gather my 1st amendment rights permit me to HOPE (!) and PRAY (!) that someone decides you're better off as statistics.
My letter:
I just finished reading the unredacted version of "Sock"'s letter to you (over at Brad Blog).
We really don't want to believe that that kind of hatred could be engendered in our fellow Americans based simply on party affiliation, and no one wants to go toward the Nazi scenario, but that is exactly what happened in Germany in the 30s. After working very hard to create a variety of smaller divisions among the German people, building suspicion and hatred among these divisions, the Nazis ultimately revealed that the only people who deserved to exist were members of the Nazi party.
There's plenty of literature and media that expands on this, but my point is that, not only can it happen here, it has now happened here. Our first step in trying to change things is to get the Democrats back in power, but the president has already instructed his cabinet to figure out how they're going to continue his agenda without interference from Congress. In addition, despite Democratic control and Democratic presidencies, this movement has been building since the 1940s. It becomes more or less visible depending upon the climate, but in the last few years, some aspects of this have become almost mainstream.
At the risk of incurring the wrath of the sensible, it may be time for us to realize that "naziism" really does exist in this country, that its roots are in our government and that we have to be proactive to destroy it. I have never seen this level of hatred displayed so publicly in my entire 49 years on the planet. I can only imagine that if I had been around in the 1930s, this would have an awful familiarity to it.
I am sorry that you are a specific target of this vitriole. I know it scares you because, as a gay woman, I know what it's like to leave a bar late at night in a seedy part of town and want nothing more than the safety of your car. In your case, though, this hatred is hard to fathom. People have always hated gays, but to hate someone and want them dead simply because you've been told and believe they're evil or a traitor based on something so mainstream as their being a Democrat is irrational, extreme and deadly to our way of life.
I know you're a comic, but please be brave and shine a light on these people and the people who are doing this to them. These people are being used, they are "suckers," and they don't know it. In the end, some of us may be dead, but these people will have to live with what they've become and what they've done.
