The Center for Responsive Politics
http://opensecrets.org/ web site is not functioning. Yesterday it was totally disabled. Today the site posts this message:
Thank you for your patience while we restore access to OpenSecrets.org. We have determined that the unexpected loss of service was not related to high pre-election traffic or sabotage. A distorted signal between Verizon and the Center's headquarters in Washington, DC appears to have knocked the site offline -- at a most inconvenient time. If you have questions or have difficulties accessing OpenSecrets, please email crp.opensecrets@gmail.com (our usual e-mail is not working either) or call 202-857-0044.
What caught my attention was that VERIZON is involved. And I remember that Verizon's Senior Corporate Counsel testified before a Congressional Committee in support of Gonzales and the legality of the torture memo. Certainly not a friend of open government.
That doesn't mean this was intentional.
Does anyone have the expertise to know whether this explanation by the organization of their loss of service makes sense and is likely to happen?
Thanks
