Investigate The Pages?!

Thu Oct 05, 2006 at 12:24:56 PM PDT

Denny Hastert, it turns out, reached out to ex-FBI Director Louis Freeh. He wanted him to head up an overhaul of the page program, but it's not going to happen now, for the time being anyway.

This will be spun as Pelosi refusing an investigation into Foley, but that wasn't what was being proposed at all by Hastert. Instead, he wants to investigate that page program--in other words, the young men and women who were victimized.

Isn't that just like the Republicans? Don't investigate the allegations, investigate the whistle-blower. Don't go after the leaker, go after the targets or the journalists.

The people who need investigating are Foley, and the leadership that hid his crimes and continue to call them "over-friendly" emails. (Since when was sexual harassment considered friendly?") This would not have done that.

Dana Bash said that Hastert's people claimed Pelosi nixed it and Pelosi's people denied it.

A GOP leadership aide told CNN that Hastert was going to ask former FBI Director Louis Freeh to examine the congressional page system and recommend how to improve the program.

Still, I hope she objected to what was being proposed, if not who. Look at what he's saying. This isn't about "Improving the page system." It's about not covering up for predators, it's about not telling the Democratic representative to the panel what all the Republicans knew.

They think as long as they say "Investigate" people will ignore the detail of what they are investigating. Just like they say "Accept Responsibility" and hope people ignore the fact that no consequences ever follow.
